Background: I went to a John Deer (adorableideas.com) event that my Babylock dealer threw in October. I went with the intention of being able to spend 3 days around the BL's before committing to one.

Got the EG because of that event. But I'm soooo not impressed with the John Deer package I got. I have this lifetime deal to get whatever I want off of his site, and his stuff just doesn't fit the bill whenever I'm looking for a design. No biggie - but just sayin'.

So the same dealer is having a 2 day with Anita Goodesign company. Looking forward to seeing finished examples, etc.

I recently bought the Tree of Life quilt pack - and I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing a finished model of it at this weekend's thing before diving into it myself.

Mostly, just looking forward to two days away from work.

i understand what you are saying. i bought several design packs at an Adorable Ideas event and had limited success and still have many unused.

I hope Anita G suits you better. I came close to buying her deluxe "get so many designs a month" pack but I resisted and I am glad. I have so many embroidery designs already I have no idea what I have. Not to mention software to make my own designs.

It is all so inspiring but not enough time to do everything we want to do. But if you do buy designs let us know what you got. We can live vicariously through your purchases.

Yeah... I get what you're sayin'.

The adorable ideas stuff came along with the EG I bought. I would never have kicked $500 for it, though (as some did at this event, IIRC)

I'm more of a "find the design to work with the project I have in mind" kind of girl... instead of the other way around where I see a design and *then* think of how I could use it.

Not quite seeing the sense of getting more stuff every month...

JD has an interesting family history. That is about all I can say. I bought his "Digitizing Made Easy" and felt much like that old commercial that asked, "Where's the beef!"

Hi Ripstitcher, send me a quick pm if you get a chance, with the free membership I can only "respond" to pm's, can't initiate new ones. Wanted to share something with you!

I haven't paid for a membership here, either.

I've made purchases through here, and I think that should be enough.

I can be found through my blog in my signature line.

A good friend of mine went to the Anita Goodesign 2 day event and loved it. She also came home with an Ellisimo.

I just recently discovered Anita Goodesign and I really, REALLY like their designs. More importantly, I love the Mix & Match quilting design packs. It's just great to be able to do everything in the hoop. Right now, I'm working on the Baltimore Revisted design.

I also considered joining the year membership since you get 10 free designs and the mariner's quilt pack at the start. But, I've just been trolling eBay and purchasing designs there.

I know they are themed and all but I think they are terribly overpriced even on ebay. Jumbly you you ever look at Secrets of Embroidery or Embroidery library? I think I told you about BFC Creations

I am a HUGE fan of Embroidery Library and really like their designs. In fact, that is where I buy the majority of my designs and I love them all. They are heavy on the stitch density and I always reduce them in my Embroidery Works program to help them stitch out better. But they have the best selection I've seen. I do need to check out Secrets of Embroidery.....one collection I do not care for is Amazing Designs (and I'm the huge Babylock fan!). Those designs are just funky looking to me.

I absolutely have to agree with you about the AG being overpriced. But I've been able to pick up several design packs for around $25 on eBay. It's still a little high to me, BUT the nice thing is they have multiple sizes in each pack and you get A LOT of designs in each one, so it's kind of worth it. I bought the Nutcrackers design pack for $24 and it has 12 different nutcrackers in 4 sizes. That comes to about 52 cents per design. Sometimes the designs on Embroidery Library don't reduce or increase very well with software, so having multiple sizes is nice.

But you really have to weight it out....some packs are worth it and others aren't. The special editions, like Prayer Garden or Golden Tapestry, are really nice and I just bought Prayer Garden for around $48 on eBay, which was worth it to me. I see it as more of a kit, which helps me justify the price. But some of the design packs, I just can't see the value and you also have to look closely at some that are duplicated in other packs. For example, their Mix & Match quilting packs use a general stitch design to do quilting in the hoop. Once you have that basic quilt stitch design, you can use your software to add your own designs. (Hope I'm making sense here!)

As I said, I considered joining the club, but I looked at their May selections for the club and none of them interest me. Now granted, you can exchange them for anything of equal value, but now I figure if I want a design pack I can just buy it on eBay if it ever comes up. And now that I have the basic quilt stitch design I can just use that and add my own designs to make a quilt....no need to buy another collection.
