Subject: I got my second new Bernina 750! Date: 4/20/13 7:11 PM

I finally got my new 750. I still am not happy with the bobbin tension. It gets better if I take the top tension up to 8 but that shouldn't need to be done should it? I find nothing in th manual about adjusting the bobbin tension, only the top. At first the machine was making the same wonky straight stitches as the first machine, but I came home and put in a new needle and my thread and that is much much better, almost perfect if the bobbin were right. The screw driver in my "tools kit" doesn't fit in the bobbin screw, its too wide for the slot, so I'm not sure what it is for. Thanks for any help.

Someone posted on the yahoo group that they turned the bigger bobbin case screw to the left and acheived perfect tension. But, if you don't have a screwdriver that small, then you could just bring in the bobbin case and ask them to do it instead of bringing in the machine. I'd do that before luggin the machine back and forth.

]Did anyone sew on this machine before you brought it home?
Take a little time and go through a lot of stitches. Lines of straight on different fabrics and thicknesses. Satin stitches, buttonholes and decos. See if there are any more problems.
With all of that done take it back. This way the tech can pin point the problem(s) Sorry this is happening to you.

This is why so many dealers DO unbox to test-sew. I was told sometimes things shift in shipping, etc or they just need a tweak. Its something even the sales ppl can do and takes minutes. This must be a common occurence w/ new machines. Almost all the bernina dealers i know do this but not so many other brand dealers make it a practice and not all bernina dealers do it. Had your dealer done this (if they didn't), chances are you'd not be experiencing this problem now. I know it involves sewing out the straight stitch and the zig-zag stitch. it isn't an extensive process but that zig-zag stitch key i think....and, prob DOES involved that bobbin screw bc i know when its off, it only takes a minute to correct. One lady at my dealership told me it seemed to her like UPS was not as easy on the boxes as they used to be...so they never send one home without testing it first.

I requested and was assured that, yes they sewed it out before I got there to pick it up, and I sewed with it a short time, until they kicked me out because they were starting a class soon. The sales person didn't see anything wrong with the stitches, even saying that "all the decorative stitches look like that on the back, on every machine here in the store. It doesn't really matter, no one sees the back".

Personally, I think this answer from your dealer is from a lack of experience and training. I would not settle on this and insist that they adjust the stitches. Sounds to me they don't want to be bothered but I think it is unacceptable.

I totally agree with Warbler. That would infuriate me...to just be bustled off like that...basically saying "get over it". Is there anyone else there at that store you trust/respect? If so, I'd not speak to anyone but that person and yes, I'd let them know first opportunity the unit is not up to your standards. Are you leaning toward repair or a refund? I am very sorry this has happened a second time. That dealer should be scrambling to get it right.

I feel so bad for you. I cant believe your dealerI'm pretty sure that this comment wouldn't go down well with bernina..they don't say "nothing sews like a Bernina". For nothing..

I bought the 550 and I'm in love. it's all the machine that I need..
