Hello!

I'm just starting to teach myself how to sew, I have a huge book (vogue sewing), but I'm looking for some good blogs with nice suggestions of first projects. Can anyone suggest any I might have missed or even do a little shameless self promotion for their own?

The best I've found for beginners so far has been Tilly and the buttons.

Thanks!

I don't have a blog, but as a newer sewer, I want to recommend pinterest as a source of sewing inspiration and source of finding new-to-me sewing blogs.

Pinterest is a great resource. On my blog I often have posts directed specifically at newbies. I put newbie in the tag so you can do a search for "newbie" and they will come up. I also have lots of tutorials, many for fairly simple concepts.

How do you search for stuff on pinterest? I joined, and I'm following a few people I linked to through here, but I have no idea how to find more people .

As a newbie, I'd be interested in the pinterest answer too. I have an pinterest account, but haven't used it to learn new sewing techniques. Sounds like a great resource!

Here are some blogs that have helped me. They've had tutorials in areas where I needed help. Just reading these can become addictive! Peter from Male Pattern Boldness, the Selfish Streamstress, and Cation Designs have wonderfully entertaining and informative writing styles.

When you're on pinterest, on the upper left hand corner is the word "search". Just type in a person's name or whatever you want to search for. When your results come up, on the left side, you'll see "Boards, pins, or pinners". Choose one of those, to narrow the results.

Oooh good. There's quite a few I haven't seen before.
I'm also venturing into pinterest, you could happily waste your whole life on there!

Don't dismiss Google. If you are looking for tutorials for a particular technique, you can construct search strings that will return a wealth of possibilities. Include "sew" or "sewing" and "tutorial" in the search string to narrow down the results. Some examples:

sew tutorial bias binding
sew tutorial bias binding neckline
sew tutorial hemming
sew tutorial machine hemming

Another tip: Once you have a list of search results, click the Images link in the menu bar at the top of the page. Now you can "shop" for tutorials by looking for photos that interest you. I often find info I want via the Images page.

Thankyou everyone from me as well, I am always searching for more blogs to read!

Whilst my blog wont provide you with any helpful information, you could look through my list of blogs that I read, I think there are over 150 on there now.

And I second using google images, rather than the websearch pages, extremely useful
