Would a ponte knit be good? I want them to wear more like pants vs thin leggings that you throw under a tunic.

Yes. Ponte would be excellent. It holds its shape well. Might be a bit warm tho' for summer.

Among other things, I made a pant using ponte last year. They are fuller than leggings but skinnier than typical trousers. I really really like them...so comfortable. I usually wear them with a tunic-type shirt.
Have you worked with ponte before? If not, I think you will like it.

I too have never made leggings, but my daughter would like a thickish pair, summer weight, I noticed that a lot of the fabrics are sold by grams per metre squared. Do you what weight I should look for.

Patty I recently got my first ever ponte material from Fabric Mart last month and :swoon: it feels amazing. I cannot wait to work this dress up.

That's what I'm thinking..something in between. It's tough to ask for "pants/trouser" pattern recommendations when you really want a nice, skinny/slim fitting leg. So I figured a "leggings" pattern would be my best bet.

I should add, I'm not necessarily looking for summer weight. Summers in MN can range from around June 15-end of August. I'm not big on full summer wardrobes :-/
