Have you read the reviews here? I see you are a new member, so perhaps you should spend some time reading the sewing machine forums and the reviews. Both of these are nice machines, and if you could possibly see and try them out this might help you a great deal in your decision.Welcome to PR, and good luck!

Both seem to have pretty good reviews. If you go to a dealer's you can see the machine up close and sew on it. It would also help you decide on which machine you like the best. Some dealers will match or come close to matching internet prices.

Welcome to PR! I think I would test both & see which one I liked better. Then you can decide where to buy & costs.

Never sewn on the magnolia, but I do love the grace. :)

it doesn't matter what type of sewing you do. you are sewing, and sewing is good.

The Baby Lock Grace is a sweet little machine. I have not sewn on a Janome Magnolia. What I love about the Grace:
1. Very easy to choose stitches, just turn the dial
2. Automatic reverse that can be set with a button. When set, it will reinforce (back stitch or sew in place) when you start sewing. when you finish, you touch the backstitch button once and it will reinforce and stop.
3. Lightweight, perfect to take to classes.
4. Makes beautiful buttonholes. They are very easy to do too.
5. Optional presser feet are not too expensive and there are many of them.

Hope this helps!

Echo same comments as sewmissy.. have had the Grace for a while 4 years.... the key factor for me was ease of use.... take your time and test the machines with different types of fabric. Definitely go the a dealer... I had free lessons when I bought mine.
Good luck
