Hello, I just traded up my trusty Bernina Aurora QE to the newly released Bernina 710. I really wanted the longer forearm for machine quilting, among some other irresistible features. The 710 is presently back at the Dealer to troubleshoot some mysterious tension problems.
Today's visit to the dealer about awful tension problems was my third, and 710 will stay till fixed (after such bad tension behavior).
Has anyone out there had a similar experience? Di I say little buyers remorse? Thanks, Mary

You won't have to read very far here to find out that you are not alone. My 750 is going back in to have its tension fixed, hopefully, if I can convince my dealer that it is not normal for the back to look like that (loops on decorative stitches, dots on straight stitches).

I too just got a 710 and had the tension issue right out of he box. I just increased the top tread tension 1.0 and it took care of it. I will mention this to my dealer, but for now it looks great. Maybe that helps and I hope you get yours cleared up quickly!

Yes, another 710 owner with rotten tension. (And a number of other problems.) The worst of the tension problems were rectified when the dealer replaced the bobbin case. But now I have notably worse tension (a terrible underseam) when the needle is in the far right (facing the machine) position, which makes sewing zippers impossible.
Are your problems equally bad when the needle is left, right or center?

My machine returns to the dealer tomorrow. I am certain they will work to fix it, but this back and forth is not fun. Also, I have taken apart the upholstery on my couch and am now unable to put it back together!

What has your dealer done or not done?

Keep us posted on what happens when your machine goes to the dealer tomorrow. This is so frustrating for you.

I really enjoy quilting. I love to play with fabrics, colors and pictures. I recently discovered how much fun applique can be. As I love making pictures, landscape quilting can be challenging, but seeing the picture come to life is so rewarding.

I suppose I was a bit hasty in thinking my tension was only a bit off. I have done samples now with different colors on top and bottom so I can see the stitch formation better... NOT good! I cranked my top tension as tight as it would go and am still getting dots from the top showing through on the bottom. Really frustrating. My dealer is thinking it wasn't "sewn off" appropriately at their shop, so we'll see what happens tomorrow when the tech is in. The sewing sample was only a zz stitch with a whole lot of top thread coming through to the bottom. I have had Berninas I LOVE, but this is not the first problem I've had...

Armarm and Tailorsew, I highly recommend that you read the Bernina threads here to learn about the problems the 7 Series has had with tension. You are not alone and there are fixes for this and yes Bernina is working hard to make customers happy and fixing the problem. I also recommend that you join the Yahoo Group Bernina 7 Series to learn more about these machines and the fixes to remedy the problems. All I can says is I hope you have an outstanding dealer who is willing to go to bat for you to fix the problems as quickly as possible.

Well I hope this will be encouraging but I have had my 710 about 3 weeks and my dealer opened it and did the updates and sewed it in and it is absolutely perfect. My Bernina Tech is the store owner and is excellent. I hope you will be persistent about getting your problems fixed as they are not normal. After reading about the difficulties others had I can tell you I was really relieved, but it can be a quiet smooth running machine and a pleasure to use.

Thanks for the encouragement! I actually just finished reading the ENTIRE 7 series thread. (Whew!) Lots of the good, bad, and ugly there for sure. My machine is to be either fixed today at the dealer or replaced when their new ones arrive. I have been dealing with this tech for 2 years on 3 other machines and have NO faith in him. Not only has he actually made machines worse or just told me my problems were user error (only to find they were not), I'm not sure he knows a perfect stitch when he sees one. I have only gone to this dealer because the store is amazing and minutes away. If today is a flop, I am prepared to go farther away to a tech I can trust, but am not sure at which point to just demand perfection right out of the box, ya know? The dealer farther away has a 710 in stock and seems to understand the demand for perfection.
