I'm using a pattern with princess seams, and was thinking about changing the button front to a chunky exposed zip. What's the easiest way to do it? Do I just cut the panels to the centre line + seam allowance? The zip would then need to go between the jacket and the facing. Am I on the right track?

If you are using an exposed zipper, measure the width of the zipper from the centre to where you want the stitching. On the garment pattern and facing, remove this amount from the centre front line- otherwise you will be adding the width of the 💤zipper to the centre front.

Other than that you are right on track. I looking forward to seeing the jacket.

would you have to remove the excess fabric from the overlap?
