Hi, I have just made this pattern up for the first time. I'm getting a pleat form half way between the shoulder and armpit which is like an unstitched dart. I'm making the darted front version of this pattern.

Can anyone tell me what to adjust to get rid of it?

thanks
Sue

It sounds like you need a larger dart. Pin out the wrinkle as a dart and then rotate it into the existing dart to make a larger dart.

I had the same problem with her T-shirt. I emailed Pamela. Before I heard from her, I tried the shirt on again with a new bra, that did the trick. I told her I solved my problem with a new bra, LOL.

eta: I also petited the tshirt as Ann has suggested. It is one of my favorite t-shirt patterns, excellent instructions.

I was fortunate to be fit by the designer herself. I am not particularly short, but she pleated the pattern out at the shorten line above the armhole all around the top, including the sleeve. A good number of the women she fit that day needed the same adjustment. Before that I struggled with this pattern. It is now my go to knit top pattern. I'm wearing one right now.

I also had to make the petite adjustment for the armhole. I'm not petite and have never made that adjustment on other patterns. Pull the top up at the shoulders and see if that helps. Also, is the dart hitting you in the right place, sometimes if it's too high, you can get wierd wrinkles. I have to lower it a little on myself with that pattern.

thanks for your help everyone. I petited the pattern by 1/2" before making it up. I don't know what made me do it before making it up but maybe it has been mentioned on some of the reviews. Anyway,

When I tried the finished T Shirt on and noticed the "wing" I compared it to my TNT t Shirt and it seemed that I needed to petite it another 1/2".

This is when I started doubting myself...WOW....1 inch seems a lot to take out, but I suppose I am only 5'2"! I'll make another and see what happens.

I also found that the hips were very generous and quite curvy. I pretty much had to straighten the side seam for my shape.

thanks again

Sue

I think her sizing tends to run larger.

I wear a Large in T-shirts from Talbots. I make a small and still shorten the pattern between the shoulder and the armpit. It is a great pattern, but does take a few alterations. I think I have made 7 or 8 tees from the pattern. I also did round back above the arm pit and and sway back adjustment for my flat butt. It can also use a slight curve to the side seams to make it more attractive. Like any other pattern for the over 60 crowd ...means cutting and pasting :-)

Thanks Linda,
I still think I have to make a high round back adjustment although the pattern does allow for it to some extent, much better than others.

I also need to lower the front neckline by about 3/4" but this is my personal preference.

It's interesting about the sway back for the flat butt (I have one too) and I did adjust a dress for that recently. I'll now have a critical look at the Tee, I bet there's a sway back adjustment in this lot too!!

It's a pain to have to do adjustments as we age but with this pattern you at least have a lot of it done for you. We sewists find it hard to settle for RTW don't we. I remind myself of that, when I do the "hard yards" with a new (to me) pattern!
