I have a BL Elisimo Gold and a BL Evolution (love both of these machines). I also have an older Viking 190 that has been my back up. I am looking to upgrade this machine with one that has more features, is computerized and a workhorse machine. I hope to use this as a class machine as well.
I'm looking at the Viking Opal 670, or the Viking Tribute 140 C. Both are on sale now for $899 and $999, which seems like good prices.
Does anyone have either one - appreciate all thoughts.

I don't have either of those Viking machines but I do have two Viking machines (Diamond and Sapphire). I love them both and would recommend Viking. Although have you thought about getting a Babylock sewing machine for your backup? The reason I suggest this is because I chose the Sapphire as my backup because it uses the same class (7) accessories as my Diamond. So all of my specialty feet that fit my Diamond, fit my Sapphire as well. It ultimately saved me money since I didn't have to buy a bunch of new stuff (bobbins, presser feet, etc). I don't know if you'd be able to do the same thing with a Babylock machine but it might be worth looking into. Good luck!

Thanks Jennifer and yes I did check the BL line and didn't like the models in the price range I am looking at. Also, I used my Viking for many happy years before I got my new machines and just really "need" to have one in my workforce. Silly, but there it is. Viking still has a chunk of my heart:) I don't plan on getting lots of extra accessories at this point - we'll see!

Sorry, I dont have or know about the Viking either. Have both Elli and Evo and like you not thrilled with BL options for Classes. I went with a Pfaff.

I have the BL Ellisimo Gold and the Evolution, too, but needed a class machine. I went Friday and looked at the Brother machines but wasn't impressed. Then I went to look at Babylocks, but my dealer also sells Pfaffs and one of my class teachers recommended the Pfaff. Though I'd never dealt with Pfaffs, I bought the Ambition 1.5. It seems to be a good machine but I've used it very little so far.

Traded in the Pfaff today for a Babylock Elizabeth. Just wasn't my cup of tea. Also the vintage Singer 99 arrived today; I haven't even opened the box yet.......sigh....

Maybe you could find a used Viking Platinum, it's a great machine, there were 4 models, still made in Sweden.

I have talked to a couple that has the 670 opal and they love it. I really would have loved to have one but bought the topaz 30 instead because I wanted the embroidery. I just liked the looks of the opal.
