Thinking about buying a 140M

My local dealer has the Viking 140M on sale for $400, and I am considering buying it but cannot find many reviews of this machine. (Plenty for the 140C, but that is not the same animal!)
Does anyone have advice for me? According to the dealer it is almost identical to this year's model at half the price.
I will mostly be making and tailoring clothes, with some home dec projects and doll clothes too. Thank you!

This looks very much like the recently retired Emerald 116 but it appears to have a few more stitches. You will find lots more information/reviews on the Emerald 116 predecessor. This Tribute was/is a limited edition model that hasn't been out long so not much of a track record as yet. Its a very basic machine but looks nice to me. The Janome Magnolia is probably close to the same price...you might enjoy comparing it to the 140M.

Thank you very much - this is super helpful because for my budget and skill level I was actually considering the Janome Magnolia before I stopped by the dealership.

I would just say if you are going to do heavy tailoring and home dec the machine may struggle over the bulkier seams. I sewed for a while on one recently and did notice it struggled over bulky fabrics. Kinda groaned a bit infact.
For the price I think there are also other options out there worth consdering too. Test drive widely the models in your price bracket and compare sewing over the fabrics you will use.

Elna has a similar model that is also in that price range and very nice (Janome makes Elna). I will end up buying one if my daughter decides to take up sewing. So many nice machines to choose from! Have fun deciding.
