I have a potential client that has asked me sew her some Home décor pillows (with zippers): 8- 21" square, 3 - lumbar & 1 bolster. The client would be providing the home décor fabric, supplies & pillow forms. I would charge her for my expertise and labor. What would be a fair price to charge per pillow?

Myself, I would ask what is her expected budget. I have a set price per hour; I explain what is involved. If his/her price per pillow seems too low-ask yourself-do I really want to do this for this much? I try to be reasonable but my time and expertise are valuable and I won't let someone devalue it. I have them sign a contract with everything written down & with at least 4 hours work paid up front-at least 1/3 of the total price. The total amount due on delivery. I do not want to be left with items I do not want.
It seems due to inexpensive third world decorative items, our society expects the same price per hour as paid to the piece workers in other countries.

Have you priced pillows lately, a basic throw pillow is around $50.00 at Macys. Your customer isn't getting a basic throw pillow, she is getting custom pillows .
My starting point is 12" basic square, no cording or zipper $30.00.

My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

My rule is never ever let the client provide the fabric because they have NO idea. You could have based your price on reasonable time estimates and then client rocks up with impossible to sew fabric that can easily double the time you need to put into the project.

Trust me, I've been burnt a few times with this.
