I just clicked "empty" on my junk mail folder in my e-mail account. I did a quick scan to see if anything got into the junk folder in error. Nope, all was junk.
Then I wondered who exactly gets taken in by that stuff. It must work once in a while or why would people keep sending it.
Do any of us actually know of someone who was taken in by this stuff. I don't.

Ada, sometimes it is not about being taken in, as much as just opening the email can get viruses on your computer and will confirm that your email address is valid.

But unfortunately enough people are taken in to make it profitable for the spammers.

Sadly, many many people get taken in by the junk mail whether it be scams or viruses etc. I think those people that do get taken in must all be of the mindset that "I saw it on the internet so it must be true"

I am fortunate that because we own our own servers and mail servers, I mostly never see any junk mail. Our tech is having the junk stripped at the server before the mail comes through to my email account. The really cruddy part is that our mail server is stopping 10s of thousands of junk mails a week from ever hitting our (or the clients hosting with us) computers. Thats a lot of junk mail.

And here I thought you were talking about all the paper I dump unread in the recycling bin on my way back from my snail mailbox!

Here is a tip for your Sharon.. cut out the bottom of your mailbox.. and put a kitchen trash can underneath it..

Ada.. I just dump my spam.. I don't even scan to see what is in there..

I do check mine daily before dumping it, because I find a valuable piece or two in there every few days. Usually it's the first post from some site that I've just joined.

I use Gmail and it has a pretty good spam filter. I almost never get spam delivered, and only rarely get real mail mislabelled as spam.

My mother-in-law was taken in by those Indian "IT Department" cold calls who say they are from Microsoft and need to remove a virus. She let them install something on her computer and paid them money too She is a smart lady but not very savvy when it comes to computers, so it was easy to take advantage of her. That sort of thing makes me really angry.
