I will be hosting an Oktoberfest (in July) and wonder which month the Burda magazine has the dirndl costume patterns.

I know I can buy an envelope pattern, but would like to have an excuse to buy the magazine.

From memory it is usually the September issue that has the traditional costume patterns. They are often variations on this theme and slanted towards cooler weather, so there will probably be no basic dirndls. But they do have several on the Burda website you can download.

BTW, I just returned from a trip to Austria and it was nice to still see lots of dirndl dresses being worn by women of all ages, especially in the mountain areas.

I think (not sure, it's been a while), if you search for dirndl patterns on the Burda site, the individual pattern page includes the info on when it was in the magazine.

I know I saw it for something, probably not a dirndl, but it's worth a shot, right?

I know this is not exactly what you asked about but a quick search on Ebay for 'Burda Drindl' brought up a dozen patterns, I have this one:
My husband owns a German restaurant, the waitresses wear drindls which are so expensive to purchase so I just make them as needed.

Usually the September issue has a dirndl or folkwear pattern. If you can find 09/2011, this issue is full of folkwear. There's a dirndl for sizes 36-44 as well as one for plus size 44-52. This issue also has patterns for a folkwear style cape, jackets, skirt, and instructions for knitting a sweater. There are even even children's dirndls and lederhosen patterns. The only thing missing are patterns for men, but Burda has that covered in an individual pattern (7290).

What a great looking outfit that pattern makes!

Also love of German food

There is a drindl skirt pattern in the Simplicity for sewing book - very easy to make - Good luck and look forward to seeing photo's of your fun partyt!!

We adore "theme" parties! I remember going to a costume shop and renting our German outfits - I hadn't sewn in 20+ years back then.

Thank you all for your replies, I have decided to get

I like the idea of having 4 pieces to make - I can make as many as time allows. I also have the option of making a 'bodice like' short sleeved blouse which I can wear for work.

My husband used to work in Munich and we went with friends to the Oktoberfest last year. We also held our own at home so we could get some practice in. I made pretzels and DH made Obatzda, this year we will go one step farther - with costumes.
