We originally had a rope hammock with the wooden bar that the ropes go thru. That part is still fine, but the ropes are shot.
I'd like to make a fabric replacement and not quite sure how to go about it. I'd like to make it padded.
I looked at some when I was at the pool store last weekend. They want around $200. I already have some sunbrella fabric. probably enough. If not, I have some DUCK cloth. I don't have grommets or a way to put them in, but perhaps I can get the local boat cover guy to add them?
The ones I've seen appear to have a banding of some type along the ends. the grommets go thru that.
I don't quilt, so perhaps someone who does might know the best way to do this? I have everything else. just missing the technique...........
I replaced the fabric in my hammock a while back. I think it is a different style to yours but you might find my review vaguely useful. One of the linked pictures has some handwritten notes/diagrams on how the ends were sewn and the ropes were fed through.
Are you able to post a picture of your existing hammock to get a better idea what is involved?

sorry for the delay. it's been raining here so I didn't get outside to take a photo. it's supposed to clear up today, so I'll send a photo once the rain stops. It looks pretty basic. rope goes thru the hole in the wooden bar at each end and then ties into the rest of the hammock.
the ones I've seen are pretty much the same. rope goes thru the spreader (wooden bar) in each individual hole, then ties into a fabric sling which has a reinforced band at each end. Each hole has a grommet.
