I bought this because I wanted the hand crank mainly. The rest was in pretty rough shape.

Singer Featherweight Sewing Machine w/Hand Crank & Suitcase Case1935

Original listing when he had it for $599.00

Not a featherweight. I knew it was a 99 handcrank and since I have a couple of motorless 99's in the garage thought I'd make a frankenmachine. I had emailed the seller to tell him it wasn't a featherweight, and what it actually was. I actually asked that if he was anywhere near me I'd like to come and look at it. He relisted it without changing the description and I bought it for $21.45.

The postie staggers to the door with this huge box wrapped in a black plastic bag. Uh oh. I grabbed my camera and then started opening it.

The infamous "packing peanuts in a box" packing.

And of course the hand crank is broken.

Ack! Seriously what is wrong with people?! Do people not understand the concept of packing? Sorry about your machine. Hopefully you can fix it without breaking the bank.

How sick! Packing peanuts. Why not put the darn thing in a box within a box with packing peanuts around it? Oye vey. Reminds me of a serger I bought on eBay--packing peanuts and those green blowup things--no other packing stuff. And then I was labeled, by the seller, as being "cranky"...

So here's my dilemma and I want advice.

I haven't left feedback on eBay yet.

Do I wait out the paypal claim process and possibly get all my money back and then decide what feedback to leave?

Do I just smack him with bad feedback right now so that future buyers of sewing machines will be warned?

The refund amount is negligible, I'm just more pissed off about how terrible a packing job it is, and he has other sewing machines for sale.

I would wait for the refund. Sellers get down right hostile about even neutral, let alone negative feedback, even just anything less than 5 stars. You don't want to remove his motivation to refund promptly.

I've hovered over the feedback button twice today. I know I'm going on about this, but I had emailed the seller and inquired if he had taken insurance and he said no, only if the buyer pays for it. Well, he didn't take insurance so he's on the hook for it, not the buyer.

If I sold something on eBay (or Etsy for that matter) and the buyer says it's broken or lost in the mail, I refund everything automatically, it's my cost of doing business, and my risk of not taking tracking and insurance. And I refund it right away. I'm still waiting.

There were really cool shipping labels from White Star/Cunard on the case. The case lid was in nasty shape as the bentwood has delaminated but the guy put silver duct tape right across both the White Star and the Cunard label. Wrecked. fricketly fricketdy frick!

Wait for the refund, then strike!

I recently "bought it now" on a pair of sandals on ebay, from 2 different sellers. I normally wouldn't buy shoes on ebay, but these were supposedly NIB, a brand and model that work for my feet, but are no longer made. Paid, of course, being BIN.

Neither vendor had the size they advertised! So I had to give each permission to cancel, get refunded.

Very tempting to leave some less than 5 star feedback for that. But then....maybe they'll have my precious sought after sandals one day...

This IS a real Featherweight!

The owner brought it to me for cleaning and testing because she said it had been in her barn for about six months. The motor is frozen, bobbin case missing, hook and everything in the lower section severely rusted. She was shocked when I gave her a $500 estimate to rehabilitate it.

Ooh, that is a mess! Did you ever do the work on it?

I finally left negative feedback, mainly because eBay reminded me and I had put this out of my mind. The seller sent me a nasty email. Tough, he's still selling machines, and describing them wrongly, but maybe he'll pack them better.
