Has anyone ever seen a pattern for a Men's shirt called a Guaybara. It is a short sleeve shirt that has sewn down tucking in the front often in two colors. Guys from Cuba and somimes the Philipines wear them. Thanks

It's just a men's shirt with short sleeves and the tucks. You could create tucked fabric and cut it out as the fronts. It's called a guayabera. The ones I'm familiar with have a camp shirt collar, but you could also make it with a collar stand.

Thank you Debbie, the images are so helpful. There is a lot of info too. It would be great though to find an authentic pattern. We see the Hispanic men around here wearing the shirts and they look so handsome. My daughter thinks her hubby would look great in one. That's a really good idea to just pre-tuck the fabric.I've done that before for fancy blouses
Thanks again.carry

My father and grandfather wore those all the time when I was a little girl in south Texas. Had NO idea until now that they had an official name. Thanks!

I've quit fighting my inner demons. We're on the same side now.

It's just fabric; we can out-think it.

I have made a shirt that is similar to a Guaybara. You can read the review and view the photos at Shirt Reveiw

NVK: The pattern you suggested is for a more fitted shirt. The Guayabera is a loose-fitting, casual shirt. It is designed to be worn outside of pants instead of tucked in so there is more ease all around.

I was stationed in Puerto Rico for three years and saw men wearing them all the time. Depending on the material and the amount of styling, they could be very dressy or casual. The main thing seemed to be the comfort factor in the warm weather. I would suggest you make one out of good quality, 100% cotton or rayon to achieve that comfort level.

There is a store in Miami called "King of Guayaberas"

You can check out the different styles Here.

I remember when we had one custom made for my father out of white Irish Linen. It was for special occasions, they also make them out of cotton/poly for everyday wash and wear, and cotton for when you feel like ironing. If I remember correctly the only fitting would be around the yokes, then cut straight down to hip width, there is no side seam shaping. You could probably find a shirt pattern with the shoulder yokes and alter it to create your own pattern. The hem has a shaped facing front and back, it's sort of a shirt jacket combo. Good Luck!

When I first saw the etsy pattern the two-tone orange struck me as a Bowling Shirt?

Sorry it may be more complicated than that... Good luck on finding a pattern!
