I understand these sew in reverse without holding down the button or lever.
Can anyone answer this for me?

Thanks,
Deb

I have two Pfaffs; one is a QE4 and the other is about 10 years old. Both have this feature where if you hit the reverse button before you sew it will go in reverse until you hit the button again.

The QE4 even has a stitch (straight stitch) that is a reverse stitch. Meaning if you pick this stitch it sews in reverse.

I believe some Vikings have this feature as well but I am not certain.

I have an Elna Carina and Elna Grasshopper, both can go in reverse without holding anything down. The Carina has a dial that you change stitch length which is forward or backwards stitch length. The Grasshopper has a lever that does the same thing.

My current Bernina's all have this feature. Every Bernina I have owned has it - starting with my original 830 in 1975. How it is accessed is different on different models. My Pfaff Creative Performance also had it. I use this feature, and it's a deal breaker for me.

The Viking Designers, Sapphires, and Eden Rose. Not sure about the new Opals.

My older Pfaff 1475, besides staying in reverse when you touch the reverse button, has two stitch reverse buttons. Number 02 is straight stitch reverse, centered and number 03 is straight stitch reverse if you want to use any of the 19 needle positions. I am guessing that either of these buttons has more control than using the reverse button.

May I assume that the newer Pfaffs also have these buttons?

My Janome and Juki do not have this feature - I did not know it existed until I was watching a quilt piecing video today where the lady used this feature.

When do the rest of you use this permanent reverse feature?

Thanks,
Deb

The Juki F600 has 2 reverse stitches, one straight & one zigzag. Pushing the reverse button while sewing these stitches will cause the machine to sew forward (just the reverse of 'reverse' LOL).

I have a Viking Interlude 445 and it has the permanent reverse. It was actually one of my prerequisites when I bought my machine.
