I have an idea for a shirtdress see along, if anyone would be interested.

I'm considering:

McCalls 5974
McCalls 6696
New Look 6180
McCalls 6506
Simplicity 2246

I'm a beginner looking for commiserating souls to take this journey with me!

I have M5974 and wouldn't mind doing a sew along for that wrap dress! I've had the fabric for it for months now!

I have wanted to make a shirtdress for awhile. I have both 5847 and 5974. I hope to make a wearable muslin of 5974 soon.
Do you have an idea of which one you want to start with? New Look has a new shirtdress that I have looked at-I don't have the pattern yet shirtdress It is a little less structured than the McCalls one.

Good timing - I've done a muslin of M6506 and am just now starting to cut out the real one.

I've added a couple of more to my original list.

How does one make a muslin for a pattern that calls for a knit? I bought some cheapo cotton from Walmart to use as my 'muslin' fabric.

Here is a photo of the fabric I bought at Joanns...

Oh that fabric from JoAnn's is nice! A muslin is any fabric that is similar to what the pattern calls for and I prefer cheap fabric. I bought some jersey knit from Walmart awhile back for $1.00 a yard. I am going to use it. I have some cotton too that I could use for the other McCalls.
Claire here is the link for M6506 That is so classic! I don't think I can do all the gathers.

aha - they're not gathers, they're pleats AND they're sewn down for a few inches ! Remember the 'icky skirt' ? I learned from that.

Well I made the mistake of going to Hancock's today for interfacing and they had McCalls patterns on sale. I bought 6506-sewn down pleats might work for me. I like the top of that and it is in cup sizes. I flowy fabric might even work with the gathers-um...

I am thrilled to have found this post! I have three of the patterns you suggested: Lisette 2246, McCall's 5847 and 6696. I'm leaning towards the Lisette as I have two yards of a beautiful cotton I thought perfect for a shirtdress and I want to befriend my buttonhole foot! Now I just need some buttons...
I also have Vogue 8577, which is much nicer in the photo than the sketch. Vogue 8577
