Today I took my sewing machine's aging instruction book to a local office supply store. They took it apart and gave it a spiral binding. I also had them add a clear plastic front cover and a heavier black vinyl back cover. It cost me a little over $5.00.

The manual was starting to look pretty shabby from thumbing through it over the years. And it was always sliding onto the floor when I'd open it, fold it back and try to make it behave on the sewing table.

Now with the spiral binding I can open it so it sits flat while I change the machine settings.

I use this manual all the time so you might say it's one of my "notions". I wish I did this years ago.

I did this to my manual when I purchased the Juki F600. I knew I'd be refering back to the manual frequently and the glued spine wouldn't stand the abuse.

I've done the same, but when they were new.

I'll be doing this from here on out.

In fact, I've got a sewing book on order from Amazon. It has hard covers but sturdy spirals inside. I've decided to remove the hard covers to make it easier to use.

That's a great idea. I have a couple of heavy vintage metal mechanical machines (Novum's) and I scanned myself a copy to PDF file of my instruction manuals (and saved them in my Evernote so I shouldn't be able to lose them LOL!). I then printed them out (storing the originals safely). I feel happy to scribble in notes etc. onto the printouts I made too

I have added extra pages and pockets to mine so that I have samples, and setting note right by the instructions.

I like your idea of adding pages for notes and samples!
