There is this lovely, but expensive, fancy skirt I saw recently that had some shaping under the rear to create a very sleek pencil skirt shape. Most of the pencil skirt patterns I see are either too boxy or they have darts shaping the waist but then hang straight down off the bum (e.g. the Charlotte Skirt By Hand, London.) Here's a photo to show how straight the back is: rear of the Charlotte skirt and here's another photo showing the front: Charlotte skirt front. I like everything about it except the straight rear. Is there a pattern out there like this? Preferably not vintage, because I don't have a 22" waist.

I think what you need is a pencil skirt pattern with seams at the back instead of darts. Then you can shape it exactly the way you want. Here are a few. I'm sure there are lots more.

I hear you! I made V8672 in black twill that was somewhat stretchy and it did a good job shaping around the rear but I have to figure out how to get the hips from bubbling out.

I was told here that is isn't "supposed" to hug my bum but that's what I WANT it to do on this particular skirt! LOL! So I think the pattern is great, but I have to figure out how to get it to fit like I want it to!

Well, with that many seams, I think you should approach this like doing an FBA on a Princess seam: easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Basically, cut wide seam allowances all over, say 1in or more, and then take in or let out where you need it.

Thanks :)

This is where being a noob gets you...I'm learning though! Slowly but surely. I can take it out of the UFO pile hopefully once we get settled into the new place.
