Does the sizing run true to RTW?

I've not done much sewing for kids or men, but there are a few things I'd like to make. Do the patterns run true to RTW sizes, or is it like women's clothing requiring accurate measuring?

Thanks for your insight.

Measure, measure!

I switched over to using first Kwik Sew, and later Ottobre Design for my children (both boys) because the big four companies sizing was wildly inconsistent (and not very many boy patterns, either). Younger Son is skinny, so I have continued with Ottobre, tracing smaller size width by the lengths he needs...and things still line up and fit together.

I haven't sewn anything for my husband in, hm...probably over 9 years, but I'd still want to measure first.

Just like women's clothing. There is no connection between RTW sizing and sewing pattern sizing.

Burda has great patterns for men and boys, and they have great--and somewhat unusual--measuring charts that you must use for the best fit.

I follow the two M's : Measure and Muslin. I've found almost no correlation between men's RTW sizes and men's patterns. Make a muslin to ensure it fits perfectly.
