This is so weird -- has anyone else had this happen? The default setting has been messed up -- no margin at the bottom, and the page keeps going back to landscape view even when I reset the default to portrait view.

Crazy! Any clues? Resetting the default does nothing -- it lasts a minute, then returns to the crazy changes, or makes new changes.

I would try making the changes I wanted, then saving a new normal template.

I tried choosing a new template and saving it as the default, but when I close Word and restart it, I have to change it all over again. This never used to happen.

The way to make sure that Word starts with its default settings is removing (or renaming for backup reasons) the normal.dot (Word 2003) or normal.dotm (Word 2007 and up) file. Word automatically makes a new normal.dot(m) file when you start Word when the file can't be found anymore. Any changes you made to the normal.dot file (styles or macro's for example) will be lost.
