I'm considering taking Craftsy's "Sew Better, Sew Faster" class by Janet Pray. I'm a solid intermediate sewist and I'm wondering how beneficial this class has been for other experienced sewists. Any comments or opinions from others who have taken the course?

Subject: Craftsys Sew Better, Sew Faster class by Janet Pray Date: 6/19/13 3:52 PM

I have see Janet Pray on TV and have one of her tutorials.

I have been sewing for many, many years and it would be beneficial for some one in the category of intermediate sewing as well as those of us who crossed that line a long time ago as a refresher, or to learn new tricks for old dogs.

I am in the process of watching this. It is brilliant, she shows so many useful tips to help you sew more efficiently. The photography is good too.

I am from the UK, and although the pattern is 'free' with the course, I ended up paying and extra £11/$17 because the price of the pattern if bought is over the £15 import limit.

Janet Pray on Craftsy? I'll have to look into her class. I have her Irish Coat pattern, via Islander Pattern Systems, and I've been curious as to her methods. I'm sure, absolutely certain, that you will find this class beneficial. Chances are, you will learn techniques that those of us dogs/dinosaurs didn't learn early on and struggle with.

Thanks for taking the time to post your opinions. I went ahead and signed up for the class and have watched just the introduction. I really like Janet's no nonsense teaching style and am looking forward to the meat and bones of the class.

If anyone else is interested in this class, there is a promotion for 20% off below. In the event this link doesn't work, I googled "Janet Pray discount class" and this link is one her Facebook page (no need to have a Facebook account to obtain it). The cost is $40 with the discount.

Thanks for the info. This old dog might need a refresher course, too.

I attended a two day workshop with Margaret Islander many many years ago. I wondered if these are the same methods?

I'm so glad you posted this question.
I looked into the class and it appears to be just what I need right now. I signed up and am into the first lesson.
I'll have to wait a while for my pattern to arrive. In the meantime I can entertain myself by shopping for a nice print fabric for the jacket. I do like the style, I think it'll work well for me.
I was hoping there'd be a review of the pattern here on PR but no luck.

I was wondering the same thing. I was thinking about ordering the Islander series as a reference to put in my sewing library. If the Craftsy lesson is the same, I might order since it's supposed to be about industry techniques. I'm interested in the techniques to add to my file of techniques. Are the techniques really industry?

I'm interested in this too. I could slap myself for not signing up for her half day class of the same at the ASG conference this year. Then I wouldn't have to pay an additional $40 on craftsy. Oh well, at least with Craftsy I can watch over and over if I want.
