Iron acting up

I have a Rowenta iron that I bought maybe a couple of years ago. I liked it - alot. Now, it's starting to act all wonky on me. It takes forever to heat up. And the automatic shut off system works before the allotted time. It's irritating!

Before this iron, I had a Black & Decker. That lasted me 2 years. One day out of the blue, it just didn't heat up anymore.

Is this what it has come to? That I need to buy a new iron every couple of years.

Has anybody else had this problem? Now what iron should I buy? Any advice? Thank you!

I would stick with Rowenta. I use distilled water in mine and it is now several years old and still works like new. Knock on wood!

I too have a Rowenta. It's got to be about 10 years old by now...no issues. Sorry yours is acting up. I think every brand out there has people that rave about it and others who have had nothing but trouble with it. If you need to get a new one don't choose by brand...just get the one with the features you like and need.

Rowenta has outsourced the manufacture of some of their irons. I had on that lasted a year before (as you said) starting to turn itself off. Mine also leaked water out the base. I would not buy another (I have a reliable brand and like it now)

I've had a Hamilton Beach Retro iron for several years--about five? It doesn't act up, the auto shut off goes off after about an hour (not every 10 minutes), the balance is nice, and I've not had problems with it spitting, even though I put regular water in it.

I have the Reliable V100. It's been spit and leak free for a year now. Love it. Heavy, and demands distilled water but worth.

I wish Philips would make irons for North America again. This baby (a closeout at Target 10-12 years ago) is still producing phenomenal steam. Why can't we get a decent iron any more?

I am so with you on that point. It's crazy that in just a few years time, that I have had to buy several irons!

I agree too. I have had to replace irons many times the past 5 years. It is discouraging.
