Did you purchase this plan? What is a fair price for this 3 year warranty plan.
When I purchased my Symphony and Imagine almost a year ago I was told to purchase the Golden Standard within 1 year of purchase extending my warranty for 3 years.
I am near 1 year, so I need to make a decision. My concern is that Symphony is computerized and repair may be hefty ( ??$300/ 3 ys).
Could you share your experieces with me.
Also, what would be fair price?
Thank you

I got a gold standard warrenty when I bought my evolve serger. Actually I forgot I had it and I never needed it.

I have had a number of computerized sewing and I never buy the extended warrenties. I just take my machines in for service when needed. The warrenties are another money maker for dealers (imho).

Buy a good solid machine, keep it cleaned and serviced, and spend the money you would have spent on the warranty on accessories for your machine.

One thing to consider is that the Gold Standard isn't just an extended warranty - it also covers the basic annual service/cleaning you'll need to have done. I bought it for my Enlighten because sergers get tons of fibers and dust and whatnot in them and I definitely wanted to get my machine cleaned every year. I can't remember the price I paid, but at the time, I did the math of what it would cost to get service done for the number of years the plan covered, and it made sense for me to do it. I would base the decision on that.

If it was just an extended warranty, I'm not sure I'd spend the money. My personal feeling on those kinds of things is that the machine probably won't break until it's a few years old and thus out of the extended warranty period anyway.

Never bought into this and have never needed it. I do my own cleaning.

If it makes you more comfortable to buy the plan, then go for it. I don't know if this plan has any wiggle room on the price.

If you can afford it, I would get it. And you did it the best way, wait a year and then buy it. That first year is covered anyhow and if you buy now, it extends the Gold Standard 3 more years. The Symphony cannot be oiled by the consumer as there are closed electronic parts inside and you void your warranty by removing those plates yourself. Service is going to be probably $80-100 to just clean, oil and adjust...and you really do need to do this at least once a year. Under GS, your parts and service are included, so add that up for 3 years and compare. It probably comes close. And if you sew a lot, you can bring the machine in for cleaning and oiling more than once a year and it is covered.

Thanks a lot. It is wonderful to be able to get your input.
Lots to consider.I agree Symphony needs check ups yearly by a professional. I am going to check with the dealer how much it is going to be just for Symphony. Do you know how much is the Gold Standard price?
Because part of me just want to get a coverstich...

It depends on how often you clean it and how difficult it is to take it to your dealer for cleaning.
I did not get it for my Evolution (bought in MT) as it does fine with at home cleanings and just taking it in for a good dealer cleaning and go-over every 4 yrs.
I did get it for my Ellisimo as I got a good deal when visiting CA and I knew I would be moving from MT in a year. Good thing as it went dead after I installed the first update. Had to be shipped back to the CA dealer and software re-installed. Then I got a free annual cleaning in MT and 2 free annual cleanings in FL.
Now I am getting an upper thread error message. I have a class at the local BL dealer next week so if I still get that error there I will just leave it to be checked "free".
My CA dealer threw in the Gold Standard as part of the good deal because I told him I was visiting out of state and would be moving. So no idea what it would cost.

Yes it includes servicing. If you have it serviced once a year it will pay for the plan, then if anything jams, breaks, yes some never need to take it in but when you do its nice to have. say your motherboard goes out, its covered under warranty. I just messed up my thread cutter, I just dropped my machine off. It is very nice warranty to have

Know that the gold standard warranty is transferrable if you sell your machine. Standard warranty is not. So, if you you can get it at a good price when you get the machine, it is well worth it in my opinion. Just bought the Crescendo and got the gold warranty for $100 - just sold my 7 month old Symphony - no more warranty.

I checked around and I ended up buying from another dealer for $250. The dealer I originally purchased was charging $300. Wow with Babylock you really need to shop around as everything is market up.
