I have been trying to find stash and scrap busting quilts that are not string quilts.

I found this pattern in a book. The squares are 2.5 inch unfinished. I used the accu quilt to cut the squares. I used about 5 small grocery bags of scraps up.

Thrilled about that!!

Anyhow - It will get borders but this is it tonight.

PM - how do you do it? How long did this take you to piece together? I'm a true fan, have only made wall size quilts or large throws so this thing you do seems so daunting to me.
Anyhow, looks great! Please answer my how long question - very curious!

I quilt full time right now. Other than finishing School (& only have one class.)

It is not an exaggeration to say I quilt for 10+ hours a day.

Im not sure what my time will look like at the end of July when school is really over - so, Im working as hard as I can now to finish projects that will clean out my scrap stash.

Im single and enjoy time alone "reading" audio books. I think that helps me quilt for long hours. I honestly just finished "Tale of two Cities" on audio book.

For the last two years Ive been trying to learn as much about quilting as possible. Im obsessed with it. If I decide to go to grad school it will be a self designed program where I study aspects of quilting.

Good for you! I had a hunch you were doing this on a full time (plus) basis. It shows and your work is amazing.
Good luck with grad school, if you choose this avenue!

Another truly amazing quilt. I actually wrote to the Quilt Show about you because you never know when they will want to focus on new quilters! I told them your eye for color and design was unbelievable and they agreed with me after checking out your pictures.

Double thank you Sharon!

Wait - triple!

I decided it was to hot to iron today. I went hunting through my quilt books and found a star quilt that uses 4.5 inch squares and 2.5 inch blocks. Another project that I can cut almost entirely with the cutting machine!

I had been scared of star quilts - but loved them. Im cutting all reds from my stash and whites from my stash. I hope I can finish it by the 4th.

I was just watching some of the quilt show today. I fell behind watching it. This Buckeye beauty quilt came from a 90's Marsha Mccloskey book. Im going to re-watch her episode of feathered stars tonight after class. You know what? The last two quilts I made (from shirt scraps) while that is an old pattern, I used the instructions from the same book to make those quilts.

Im excited to re-watch her episode now that I have made a few of her quilts.

Portland, your dedication to learning your craft really shows in your quilts...they're top-notch technically and design-wise, and they're, well....they're beautiful! They also have a special quality that says they're "created by Shane"

Have you been studying art and design, or do you just have an eye for it? Grad school? Go for it!

So, you use a cutting machine for small pieces? Sounds like you enjoy using it...can I ask which model you have?

That is a truly spiffy quilt. I have always liked that pattern, and yours is a great exemplar of it.
