Remember when we used to go to the fabric store and browse through those big pattern books? I'm so frustrated with trying to find a pattern online. Can't see those small pics! I'm trying to find a pattern for myself. I want to make a light cover-up for the office with short sleeves - open in the front - using a cotton eyelet material. Anyone know of a pattern like this (size 42 bust).

This is my frustration exactly. I realize some don't mind but I wish there was an option to page through - one pattern at a time - so I can actually see them.

I'd love to buy patterns here to help support PR but I can't buy what I can't see. I realize I can use the CTRL+ feature on my browser to make everything bigger but then I'm panning around the whole page. It just doesn't work.

I often look at pattern pics here at sewingpatterns.com, which has some of the best viewing options around.

For example, at the top of the page, you can choose among three different image sizes. Though none of them is huge, size L is pretty good--and then as you mouse over the actual image, it enlarges even more!

Further, many (not all, but many) of the patterns let you click underneath the image you have chosen and see certain details, such as "Fabric and Notions," which will show a large and quite readable view of the envelope back. Sometimes, there is even a link to details on the construction sheet.

This company, sewingpatterns.com, has gotten some strongly negative reviews in the past, but I just ordered a bunch of patterns and received them in two days. No problems at all.

True, but sewingpatterns.com needs to upgrade their site. I just chose "jackets", and I got 2211 hits! There's no way to narrow the search. Who's going to look through 2211 patterns?

You mean you just typed 'jackets' into the search box for the entire site??

I've never done that with any search. It would be like typing 'jackets' into a google search box: You'd get a bazillion hits without any focus.

I work by pattern brands that I'm familiar with.--Vogue, Burda, whatever--and then look for jackets within the brand.

The McVogueRick/KS web sites allow you to page through the patterns within a category one by one. Click on the first pattern in the series, then click on the Next Item link which is just under the main menu bar on the page and to the right of the big photo. There's also a Previous Item link.

Yup! That's what I did! I didn't want to choose a specific pattern company. I was hoping I could at least narrow the search to "Women's jacket"

Thanks for the tips - I didn't know those options were available!

check out silhouette patterns. there is a nice cardigan like jacket that has been featured recently in peggy sagers webcams. very nice for the office. it's called nina's top and when it was featured the material was a light weight lacy material.
