A couple of people have mentioned the current Wawak/Threads sale, including Nancy in the recent "Thread" thread:

Quote:
Flat rate shipping from Wawak, which sells many other sewing supplies at bargain rates is only $4.89 per order. To make the deal even sweeter, Wawak is running a special offer. Use the coupon code THREADS913 to receive a $20 discount off an order of $40 or more.

This reminder came at a great time for me, as I'm just about to order a roll of drapery pleating tape, which is going to be ~$25. But I'm JUST SURE there's something else I need there! LOL

I'm well stocked up on thread, and they don't appear to have the zipper foot I need, so what else should I be stocking up on/treating myself to?

Enable me, PR Gurus!

Flipping through their catalog, I noted EZ Off (iron cleaner), glass head pins, button hole cutter, Maxi-Lock for $1.59 per cone, machine oil in containers with long applicators (handy for oiling serger parts). If you want to browse, the catalog (home page, left side) is easy.

I got pins. Satin in 1 lb box. I don't like the pins in general, but I keep losing them.

I also got glass head pins to replace some bent and lost, another magnetic wrist cushion, rulers, sliding gauges and a jean a ma jig to make the 40.

My big splurge was the seam ripper with blades. I can't justify $8 normally, but hey.

All I really needed was machine oil.

Wawak has very good prices on a number of sewing notions. These are the items I've ordered again and again: Organ sewing machine needles (just as good as Schmetz), Mundial scissors, YKK zippers, Gutermann Thread Color Chart (with samples of real thread), Maxilock serger thread, wax tailor's chalk, Dritz Ezy hem gauge, Clover ergonomic seam ripper, pressing mitt, bemberg rayon lining, Dritz 1/8" two-sided basting tape, 1/4" two sided leather tape.

Thread, needles, buttons, etc. They have an interesting catalog, although online you get very little detail about anything. Most probably I would think you should order thread - and more of it! ;)

If possible, combine your order with someone else.

Grab a spool of their #40 basting thread. It is great for hand basting. Doesn't tangle and is strong enough to pull it out even if you stitch over it.

Zippers. Hymo canvas. Ofla blades. Needle-punched fleece. Bemberg lining. Shoulder pads. Elastic. Bra cups. Needles. Fray check.

Off the top of my head, those are things I've bought from Wawak for comparatively (insanely) low prices.

In fact -- and I seldom gush about stores -- I never, ever buy something sewing related without going to Wawak first. 95% of the time, the price here is cheaper -- plus, my orders literally arrive the next day because I live pretty darned close.

The only time I found something considerably cheaper online? Peltex type interfacing -- and that's because an eBay vendor accidentally listed a whole bolt for the price of a cut yard. (I wouldn't have held 'em to the bolt, but they insisted on sending it and said it was their mistake!)

TFS - this is all new to me. I'm going to check them out.
