My DD just bought a New Look pattern of the spinning rack at Joann's a few weeks ago. We looked for reviews here and couldn't find a pattern by New Look even in the numerical sequence used on this pattern. She saw the pattern suddenly as New Look Reviews went by as we scrolled.

All the reviews here and all the places I have looked online have this pattern as New Look 6891. Out pattern envelope says 0154. No kidding. Nothing even like that on the websites in UK or at Simplicity. No hint in the pattern itself of the number 6891. On the inside the number on the instructions says 0154/6891. And the barcode's last four are 0154. Weird!

Are they changing the numbers? Not pivotal but kind of a surprise when you want to read reviews!

I have had similar issues with some McCall's FashionStar patterns-there's an MPxxx on the envelope, but a regular 4 digit number in the McCall's site.Rather confusing when you look up reviews, too.

Each pattern company has a "feature display" rack on top of the pattern drawers at Joann's. The pattern nos. of the display patterns start with a 0 followed by 3 other nos, that do not match the numbers of the pattern in the books. It's for the employees to follow to put the new patterns in the correct place.

I have run into this issue before and wondered why they would confuse us. Thanks, hamsterhermes for straightening us out. It still makes no sense to me, but I guess it is an inventory issue for Joanne's.

I think it is a marketing tool, just like See&Sew and It's Sew Easy are reprints of previously printed patterns (usually one view of a wardrobe pattern, IIRC).

I noticed the packaging was different in color, at least, from the regular patterns when I was last in the US.

I think, when we meet these cases, it would be good to mention the "original" number in the review so PR members can check out the full range of reviews, not just according to printed number. Please consider this.

The patterns in the display racks (for all the pattern companies) have the "display rack" # on the envelopes. That's because the rack patterns get discontinued & changed more frequently than the ones in the cabinets....the rack #s will be on the discard list.

The real/cabinet pattern # WILL be on the actual pattern pieces/tissue no matter what # is on the envelope. So check the # printed on the pattern tissue also to look for a review.

I've taken care of the pattern dept. in 3 different fabric stores in the last 30 years or so & just found this out myself about a year ago!

I've wound up with a few duplicates due to this little renumbering issue.. Simplicity isn't the only one. Butterick does it too.

I also have had this issue. Now, I know why. Thanks for the explanation!

Boy is that ridiculous. It really really is. There seems to be no difference in the rack or the drawer patterns, and inside you can see the number of the pattern after a / after the number on the envelope. Sigh. SO that means you have to open each pattern to see the "real" number and read reviews.

The reasons for this make no sense, but that's often the way. And the real reason is: "That's how we do it." HAHAHAa....oh my.
