quilt

No, I'm not planning on buying the pattern, but just looking at Cynthia England's patterns. She has some cute ones. I have not watched the demo's yet.

I am a Quilter at heart. I love to play with fabrics, patterns and colors. Recently I have discovered I enjoy doing applique. I love making pictures. Using a sewing machine is much easier than counted cross stitch or oil painting for me. I enjoy landscape quilting as well. I am working on my first applique project in the spring of 2014.

I looked at the demo but did not access them as they appeared to be about paper piecing in general.

How would you do the engravings on the machine? The overview does not mention this as a pre printed fabric.

It is a clever quilt and would add to the decor of any quilting/sewing area.

I took a class with Cynthia England a couple years ago at Quilt Festival (she actually lives here in Houston, btw). I thought I would like her picture piecing technique, but I really didn't. I found all those little pieces terribly tedious.

I want to do a tropical screen and she has a pattern I like. Now after reading your comments, I am rethinking this idea. Thanks for your input.

I really like the one she has of the sewing machine. Have bought and made some pieced wall hangings like that before. Lots of people sell patterns like that, I happened to have bought most of mine at sewing shows. When I did it, I did not even bother to sew all those little pieces together at all though. As that was too slow and time consuming for me. Instead I always just ironed wonder under, under all the base fabrics, cut my pieces out afterwards, and then just layered them on top of each other, onto more one solid base fabric, and ironed them down in more layers. Sometimes I left the cut edges raw, and sometimes I went back and embroidered or free motion stitched over some of them.

If you like her neat one of the old sewing machine, and you don't want to do all those piecing sewing steps on it, my guess is you could probably still even use her pattern just sort of in the same way even.

I made this pattern a few years ago when, for some reason, I had more free time. It is VERY intricate and time-consuming, but I loved doing it. If you are willing to spend several hours piecing a section that will be, maybe six inches square, this pattern is for you. Her method irons the paper on the right side of the fabric, instead of the wrong side as most paper-piecing patterns do. I used a printed fabric, black with a gold kind of scroll print, for the designs on the sewing machine, and I changed the quilt colors to blue & yellow. It's hanging in the hall close to the front door, so I see it all the time. It took FOREVER to make, but I love it!
