I have a gorgeous dress of my mothers. I took out the shoulder pads (hate them). and i want to do something with the facing to keep it in place. I tried hand sewing and ended up with way to many ripples

ideas?

Can you stitch it in the ditch of the shoulder seam? If you ditch stitch the whole width of the facing it should help quite a bit if not completely.

pin the facing in place while you're wearing the dress, that way it will lay better
start with the shoulders like solosmocker mentioned, and tack loosely in the other places

My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

thanx all. I was thinking later about just using several tacks along the way
