Think of this as a game. What are the stereotypes/immediate reactions you have to each of these lines, including how fitted, well designed, and attractive their wares are?

Simplicity
McCall`s
Butterick
Vogue
New Look
Kwik Sew
Burda - from Joann, not the magazine

OK, I'll play :)

Simplicity - cute, young, too much ease
McCall`s - crafty
Butterick - basics
Vogue - wildly variable fit depending on what line/designer
New Look - retro-inspired, repetitive
Kwik Sew - runs big, well-illustrated instructions
Burda - from Joann, not the magazine - well drafted, fits, terse instructions

Immediate reaction (will vary every few years):

Simplicity - Not too many patterns excite me.
McCall's - Lots of patterns I like
Butterick - Not too many patterns excite me.
Vogue - Love the looks, just need time to whip up muslins of my Vogues I've recently purchased.
New Look - Always too much ease in the neck/chest area for me. Typically, too much fitting work.
Kwik Sew - Not very interested except for a few lingerie patterns.
Burda - Hip and youthful designs, rarely purchased because I don't live close to a Joann's.

Which, iirc, are not sold at Joanns. It's as if they discarded the entire rationale for KS

KS is sold at the Joann's by me. I guess the market determines what each store sells, not just corporate

Opinions subject to change:

Simplicity - nice variety, decent drafting, love the A-cup size options. Okay instructions.

McCall`s - Haven't really formed an identity for me.

Butterick - Good for classic styles, have had some trouble w/ their drafting & quality.

Vogue - variety of styles tending towards unique, reasonable drafting, mediocre instructions.

New Look - young styles

Kwik Sew - excellent instructions, utilitarian styles, most not good for petite & small build people (but there are exceptions!).

Burda (envelope patterns) - fashion forward but less 'out there' than some Vogue, well drafted, weak instructions.

------
With a great wardrobe that's still in the flat-fabric stage.

Just my opinions..

Simplicity-meh, I can either draft it myself, or I don't care for it.
McCall`s-Sometimes something catches my eye, I know it will need major changes to fit.
Butterick-Good Basics, better fit.
Vogue-Tempts me to make things I don't need, love the Classics.
New Look-Super quick fun stuff, decent fit.
Kwik Sew-Nope.
Burda - from Joann, not the magazine-Nope again.

Fun!

Simplicity: All over the map - some basics, some current styles, some too outdated for my liking.

McCall`s: The vast majority of my collection. Fun patterns that appeal to my aesthetic.

Butterick: Some okay basics. Patterns are okay but envelope styling is dull and boring. Makes it easy to pass them up.

Vogue: Interesting and modern but "scary". I often think everything is beyond my skill level.

New Look: I like their patterns. I am *right* on the edge size-wise though. I usually need a 16. The necklines are drafted for wider shoulders but the crotch curve on the pants fit me VERY well.

Kwik Sew: I haven't bought or sewn a KS pattern yet.

Burda Style: I have a few that I have yet to sew. They look promising though, and most seem to have good luck getting the pants to fit without as much tweaking as the big 4.

IMO the Big 4 are ALL drafted with too much ease. I can't speak on KS or Burda yet.

Simplicity - boring, not on my radar. Never had much luck with fit
McCall`s - good modern basics
Butterick - some good basics, generally not on my radar
Vogue - high fashion, more difficult construction, drafting varies wildly. I like to look but haven't had much luck with fit.
New Look - good easy basics, esp for knits
Kwik Sew - basics for woven, not to my liking
Burda envelope - modern fashionable, good drafting and fit
Most of my patterns are McCalls, New Look and Burda. I used NL and Butterick a lot as a beginner but found the fit better for me in McCalls and Burda. I agree with others that the big 4 have too much wearing ease.

No, what I meant was--Joann's may sell Kwiksew, but last I checked, they didn't sell the entire Kwiksew line.
