I've got a bit of a headache today, but I wanted to watch one of my Craftsy classes. I didn't feel like sitting in front of the computer or watching it on my iPad mini, so I decided to see how it looked if I used the AirPlay feature (in the Craftsy App on my iPad to send the stream to my AppleTV for playback) and watched it on my much larger TV. It actually looks really good on the TV. Best of all, I can lay on my couch and watch it. Awesome! Now I just need the stupid headache to go away...

it doesn't matter what type of sewing you do. you are sewing, and sewing is good.

You just stirred up my quiet want for an apple tv, it just got really loud, thanks a lot! I have a mac mini, an ipad, and a nice tv and if they would all play really well together while I lie on my cushy couch I would be in techno heaven.

I have about $100 reward credit earned on my visa right now, that is my play money. Yeah, we know how much the apple tv costs too.

If you have a current game system connected to you tv you can access the internet also. If I did Crafty could watch it through my tv connected to my Playstation. Of course provided you have a wifi connection in your house.

LOL. I use my AppleTV a lot. My DH uses it more to stream his iTunes library from his PC, and I stream mine from my Mac mini. My primary use is for streaming video. AirPlay is super nice. Sure, I could plug my laptop directly in to my tv too, but I like that I can be wireless. :)

No game system but I have an old Roku for Netflix and love that simplicity, but it's only good for Netflix. Plus the old Roku does the 720p while my tv can do 1080p. Although I doubt my mid range dsl internet could keep up, lol.

I can mirror my mac mini onto the tv screen via an hdmi cable but I have to use the mouse to stop or start things. Plus every time I want to watch something from the computer I have to set it up and un-set it up so DH doesn't get confused when he wants to use something. I just want to lie on the couch and press the remote!

How recent is your mac mini?

(From the Apple menu, select "About this Mac". Click on "More Info...")

It should say something about the Mac Mini, such as "Mac Mini (mid 2007) or "Mac Mini (late 2012)"

I got it three or four years ago. I don't see a date, just macmini4,1. I'm curious why you ask?

Because certain recent macs (generally made after mid 2011) running MacOS 10.7 can send wireless video to an appletv-- just as an ipad can.. However, your mac isn't one of them.

Still. I have a similarly deficient iMac (Early 2009), and my appletv is still useful for playing back my itunes collection, and playing video from various ipad apps. The PBS app is even gracious enough to play in the background, so that I can surf the web while I watch Masterpiece. The Lifetime app isn't so considerate. (and neither, for that mattet, is the Craftsy app)

Thanks :)

I'm feeling a lot better now, but I still have a headache. Ugh!

I watched 3 Craftsy classes that I had been meaning to watch, so I am a happy camper.
