I stopped in at my local Fabricland to grab a few zippers yesterday and they've posted signs stating that they are no longer ordering Simplicity or New Look patterns, effective August 1. Their notice claims that for them to keep S/NL patterns, there would have to be a price increase of 160%.

I'm a little disappointed because most of my new patterns have been New Look. I guess I'm just going to have to have my mom keep an eye out for pattern sales back home in the States and get my patterns that way.

That's just awful! Have you written a letter to Simplicity?

Not sure where you are in Ontario but maybe you could still get them from Lens mill store?

Nah, closest Lens to me is Toronto (I'm in cottage country). It would be more cost effective to do it through mom and send her gift cards in exchange ;-).

Honestly, after dealing with Simplicity's international distributer online, I should just not buy from them at all.

Oh my goodness. That is terrible news. Between Fabricland not having the pattern sales for Butterick, McCall's and Vogues anymore and now this, one wonders if you should buy a Fabricland membership at all! (maybe for notions.. and basics) That sucks!

I am really sorry to hear of their decision with S and NL.

I think they no longer have sales on B-M-V as once you become a member of the BMV on-line club you get these patterns at very reduced prices on a very regular basis. I am a member and not being close to a fabric store I find this a real benefit

Membership is $10 per year and delivery - while not the fastest - is reliable. The patterns are being mailed from Whitby which is a 30 minute drive from my home but you can not pick up your order

My nearest Fabricland is a Western division store - have not been there recently due to foot surgery which has me confined to home but will check when I am next there. The Western division sometimes do things differently but very much doubt that this will be the case here as it sounds like a real profit loss to continue carrying S and NL

I wonder what this means for Burda. Simplicity has Burda on their website, but perhaps Burda has another distributor in Canada. As if there weren't enough reasons to not shop at Fabricland...

Another reason to do some cross-border shopping! I haven't bought at Fabricland except patterns and a few notions and this latest move is pushing me out Fabricland's doors. Other than quilt shops, there aren't a lot of shopping options for garment sewing. I live an hour from the border and I've almost convinced myself to shop on line and have packages delivered to the UPS store 5 minutes from the border crossing.

I haven't stepped foot in a Fabricland in over a year and a half -- between their change to minimum cuts, the lack of customer service and changes to a number of store policies, it was just a huge time suck to visit a Fabricland (never mind the aggravation and frustration).
