Can anyone advise me if silk dupioni makes a nice bound buttonhole? I'm making a pattern that calls for bound buttonholes and I'm using silk dupioni although the pattern ( Vogue 1054 ) doesn't recommend that fabric. Rather, silk dupioni is not listed under fabrics recommended on the pattern envelope. I've already cut out the pattern pieces.

In general, any fabric which ravels easily isn't a good candidate for bound buttonholes. If you'd like, you could do a sample with your specific fabric, use iron-on interfacing behind the fashion fabric and behind the strips.

Good luck,
Annette

put together a sandwich of all the layers that will be in the finished product and then practice making bound buttonholes.
I don't know what kind of machine you have, I've never liked the buttonholes of any new machines, so I use my old black Singer with the Singer Buttonhole attachment. It has different templates for different sizes and styles of buttonholes - it includes several sizes of bound buttonholes. You set it on tiny stitches, then it stitches a perfect rectangle. Amazingly painless. But practice is still necessary first.

Measure twice, cut once. While this saying is useful in many ways, I have no qualms about editing my posts.

UFOs completed in 2014: 1 - woohoo! finished my oldest UFO - an apron cut out in the mid-80s with a pattern from the mid-40s! and the bias binding promptly disintegrated in the wash! Ok, it was from my Great-Grandmother's stash, which means it was bought anytime from the 1910's to 1970's.

I know...I'm procrastinating.
