I have almost finished my 5th or 6th Petite Plus shapely blouse. It is so pretty. I am going shopping tomorrow for buttons.
Meanwhile I have cut out a white blouse using a really old pattern. Then I cut out Butterick 5924 in a really nice muted pink/blue stripe. Oh and also some PJ's.

My sewing mojo is at full steam and I want to take full advantage of it.

I still need to find buttons and put the hems in.

Just so you can get an idea of the fit this is what I usually have to do to a Big 4 pattern:
3/4" FBA. Use size 18 at neck/shoulders and chest then swing out to a 22 at the bust and back to a 20 at the hips, make a rounded back alteration. I never bother with narrowing the shoulders but I probably should.
Then after I get the garment made I usually have to fiddle with the side seams at the hips as tops want to flair. No hips here, so I do not need tops to curve out at the hips.

The only thing I did to the Petite Plus pattern is use an 18 at the neck and shoulder then a 20 at the bust and hips. This pattern calls for a stretch woven and I used a non stretch woven so I went out to a 20 at the bust.

I would love to see a review of the Shapely Blouse. I don't own any Petite Plus patterns and looking at the website just now, they may save me a lot of alterations.

Ada, I'm glad to hear that you have had so much success with that pattern. I just bought it and am getting ready to start working on it today.

I have most of the fitting issues that are supposed to be addressed in the pattern and am optimistic that it will be a good one for me, too. Have you found that it reduced your need for tons of alterations?

I am glad you posted this. I am thinking of working on a fall blouse and was waffling on which one of these patterns to try (yoked, regular 103 I think) My only concern with this one which I have but haven't tried yet is that I will need to lower the seam below the bust probably since gravity has taken a toll. Do you think this blouse would look good as a shirt jacket over a tank?

Love that butterick blouse which makes me think of the shapely. Did you take the sleeves from it for the shapely or use the shapely to fit it as they look similar at first glance.

mssewcrazy, I used the two piece sleeve that the pattern calls for but made it a short sleeve. I was short on fabric so the two piece sleeve allowed me to take advantage of every scrap of fabric. If I would have had more fabric I would have used the one piece sleeve from 103 (button front blouse, which is OOP)

I did not have to lower the under bust seam. Usually I have to lower the bust point on the big 4 patterns, sometimes as much as 1".

Good to know about the bust level so I won't over do with lowering the seam. All of the alterations you mentioned I do such as dropping down sizes in the hip area. I have the 103 oop and the newer yoked blouse and the book patterns so great to know the sleeve from 103 works. I wish she would have a normal cuffed sleeve blouse pattern and some 3/4 sleeve selections. A distinctive sleeve like the flip cuffs or bell shape is ok for a variation but not so great on a tnt. I can adapt another pattern sleeve but it would be so nice to have the work done for variations.Haven't gotten to sew this summer due to the remodel and the garden but the petite plus patterns are going to the top of my sewing list. I want to sew all of the blouse patterns. I have the flat front pants fitted up enough to suit me if I can find some fabric I like. The book blouse called shapely also I think I would be ok with if I made the v higher. I am so glad you have inspired me to try the shapely shirt pattern as I was concerned about the horizontal front seam location and the effects of gravity.

Very pretty blouse. So nice to be able to spend time sewing instead of fitting
