I love Marcy Tilton''s patterns and want to make her pants in Vogue 8929--view A. But as I look at the pattern pieces and try to figure out what the measurements are for the various sizes....I find it most confusing.

There's only one review of these pants. Has anyone else made these pants...do they fit large, small, just right? Any hints on figuring out the measurements of the hips and waist?

Thanks.

Do you have a tape measure? You can measure the pattern.

It does have some interesting pattern pieces. Probably the easiest way is to select the size by your measurements and make it up as a muslin. Nice pattern by the way.

Yes Frame, I have a tape measure and I have measured the pattern. The measurements fall over 5 pieces and its a bit difficult to figure out where waist, hips, thighs fall. But I have done my best. The measurements seem outta whack with the sizing...hence my question.

Have you any experience with this pattern?

Thanks.

I did post a question on her blog about the pants. No answer so far.
Thanks.

Does the pattern show the finished measurements anywhere? That may help if it does - usually on the front pieces.

This is easy if you have the pattern. First look at the hip size that is closest your yours. Mark that on the pattern pieces. Then take your tape measure and line it up on the cutting line and in another color mark the inside of that. A tape measure is 5/8" wide.
Do this at about 8" down from the waist. measure from seamline to seamline on front and back add them together and double the measurement. If there are odd pockets etc. just pin them in place before you take the measurements.
You really only need the hip measurement. Make a muslin to be sure that's the size for you.

Vouge does not always put the finished garment hip measurement on the outside of the pattern envelope any more. So it is not there. That is probably the # you want to know. My guess is it still printed right on the pattern tissue inside there though, as I think they almost always still have it there. So I think that means if you want to know what it is more ahead of time, you should buy the pattern in a real brick and mortar store, where you can just open a pattern drawer, reach in, take the pattern out, and unfold it right at the pattern counter table and look on the tissue for that there. Because if it's going to be anyplace, that is probably where it is at. I do that all the time, no stores have ever been bothered with me doing that at all actually.

That is probably what most people would do. Just since it has a partial elastic waist so that measurement is not so important, and since your hips are probably bigger than your waist, that is the one to go by, in buying the pattern. So for size you need, it has to be able to go around your hips, and then still have some extra inches for wearing ease. I think I would want maybe at least 2 or 3 inches extra on there for me wearing ease, but the model does not look like she has all that much and pretty tight over her behind on her there, if you are looking at the ones she is wearing that are gray and non stretch fabric.

Good news is the only choice you really need to make to just buy the pattern is one of two sizes. Just since each pattern envelope is multi-sized. The 8 to 16 one or the 16 to 24 one.
And they even have that size 16 overlapping and included into both.
So I think they figure as long as you know which of those two sizes pattern envelope wise it comes in, and you want, then they really do expect you to open up the pattern and look and read what is inside of it, to get the actual finished garment hip measurements.

That is a big change from a long time ago. There was a time when Vouge would just put that on the outside of most all the envelopes, not so much anymore.
