So, I just traced my pattern. I just love this one--it's kind of like a peplum hoodie for a toddler...so cute.

Anyways it says moderate stretch fabrics only. I usually just say to myself, ok it stretch plenty, and cut and sew. But I'm getting more fine-tuned and want the right fabrics for the right projects.

What is moderate stretch? I know about the diagram on the side of the pattern envelope, but what do you all consider moderate stretch fabrics?

I want to use my navy bamboo jersey, but it seems somewhat too stretchy? I have some thicker cotton jersey that is less stretchy, but im just not sure! Anyone who can offer up advice or thoughts?

Hi vandoels, IMO, use the guide on the pack because it gives you the accurate way of knowing if your fabric is too stretchy, not stretchy enough. Some knits can still perform for you but once you have a little more experience with these fabrics you will work out if it will have the right fit for you. Considering you are making a little person's hoodie I think the right amount of give in the fabric is essential for fit and comfort. Sorry I can't be more specific.

Hmmm... Well I'm assuming some fabrics are generally considered moderate stretch. Is it only stretchable one way, for example? Are double knits generally an example of a moderate stretch fabric, as opposed to two-way stretch tencel jersey or something?

I think my girls would comfy in any stretch knit fabricthey don't mind anything so long as mommy made it <3

Double knit (yes) and interlock are two stable (35% stretch) knits that come to mind. There are also 100% cotton knits, but they're more like 25% stretch, if that.

Most of the patterns I've dealt with will specify two (or four) way stretch if it is appropriate or necessary. They will also have an additional stretch guide for the other direction. Double knit cotton sounds perfect to me for your project, but make sure the stretch is pretty much like the pattern's guide. (Also, it's best to use a double thickness of the fabric to test against the guide.)

Ah, thank you guys!!!! Perfect!

I finished up the top in a double knit with about 30% stretch-it was just right. I went through my knits and felt around and got a better idea of what would work. The Kentucky link was very helpful!!
