Earlier today, a hacker broke into one of our servers which we were able to stop. However they were able to get email addresses and possibly passwords for some of our users. No financial details or other sensitive information was accessed since we do not store this data.

As a precautionary measure, to ensure your profile security online we need you to change your password on PatternReview.com and any other websites where you have may have used similar passwords.

IMPORTANT: If you have not already changed your password, click here to do so.

I am so very sorry that this happened but we are working hard to prevent attacks like this in the future. Thanks for your cooperation.

Thanks for alerting us. :)

Why would we need to change our passwords on other websites besides this one? I don't understand how a hacker would get access to our browsing information like that.

I think what she means is that *if* you use the same password on different sites, including PR, then you need to change the password on each one.

thanks, Deepika. One question... I think I recall a message from PR saying that my credit card had expired, and I needed to update it before I could renew (i.e, the automatic renewal couldn't go through since the card on record had expired; not that I was trying to us an expired card... ). I assume that info is stored somewhere besides the server that was hacked?

I just went to look at the "My Account" page, and indeed, details (but not complete details) about my card are there...

On changing passwords, I think Deepika is suggesting that you shouldn't use your PR user name and password elsewhere, and if you've done that you need to go change those, too. In other words, you're safer having unique user names and passwords at every site. I know, that's a drag, but a password manager can help a lot....

kowgirrl.up, like others mentioned, this is suggested if you use that password on other sites.

It is good practice to change your passwords periodically everywhere.
