Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knew of who makes a wide ironing board that is solid and worth it to buy.

I have a regular ironing board, which was not cheap. I find it is rickety, not solid at all and way too narrow.

All I could find in a wide board is something like this. But the price tag is kinda high. I can buy the table alone for $180.

I am married to a carpenter, so he can make anything I ask. But he is right, it can't be wood, with the steam it would not be a good idea.

What have you guys found?

I have seen extra wide ironing boards at Walmart and Target but they may not be sturdy enough for you. WAWAK has a Reliable C30 Ironing board for 129.

I know the large rectangular ironing boards shown here are $95.00.

But watch this and make your own!

I don't know if they still have them, but I got a similarly sized, non steam ironing board from COSTCO. it must have been reasonably priced...or I would not have purchased it.

The original Big Board is the one I have. It comes with it's pad and cover for $129.95 (or close to that). Go to the above website. I love mine!

I wanted to add that the Big Board fits on top of your regular ironing board.

My husband, a part time carpenter, made me a wonderful table top ironing board with legs that sits about 4 inches above a table. He made it out of 3/4 inch plywood. I covered it with several layers of a thick wool blanket I got from a thrift store, and then some cotton sheeting. I stapled this covering to the underside. i keep ironing supplies under the board (press clothes etc.)

Making the ironing board out of wood has not posed any problems (my grandmother had a padded, all wood ironing board).

Having a carpenter husband is great. I design things specifically for my sewing room, height, machines etc. and he is usually able to build them.

I bought mine at Walmart and it's been performing well for at least a year.

I have this one and like it a lot. I use the metal steam unit shelf to hold the stuff I need while I iron, in addition to the actual iron. I find it to be very sturdy.
