A beefed-up 4.2 SELECT model on Pfaff's website! it has 40 stitches total and a few decoratives this time. Also has a half-speed setting and looks really nice. I always liked the Select models for their simplicity and of course, dual feed. This one is really very handsome too! Has anyone seen it or tested it?? or must I be the first?

ETA: i see the Select 4.0 has 40 stitches also. So maybe this isn't all that new or beefed up afterall. Sorry for the false alarm but i still think the new 4.2 is very attractive!

They say it is improved but I'm not seeing any changes. The stitches look to be identical to the 4.0. I wonder if the change is that the 4.2 has a half-speed setting? Does anyone know if the select models went back to metal hooks?

Select 4.2 has led lights and new colour. Anything else?

Did a little research and saw reference to a half-speed setting but don't know if that was on the former 4.0 or not. The spiel makes it sound as though there have been improvements (as in plural) but it looks like the same stitch package, so maybe the LED light or lights--is the only change but that's a very nice thing really. price is between $650-$699 now. I'd heard rumors that Pfaff was dropping the mechanical machine so its good to see a new one come out w/ some improvement(s).

I have a the more basic Pfaff Select, it used to called a 1530. It is my favorite machine. I own others, including vintage and electronic tol, and the Pfaff Select is the one I use most. It's simple, easy, reliable and will plow through anything, and the IDT is way better than any walking foot.

I keep an eye out for one of that era. You never see 1530's or 1540's on the used market! I thought this 4.2 was something new bc it states it has lots more "decorative stitches". Its a bit of a stretch to call what i saw decorative..tho the images sometimes aren't what the actual stitch looks like. A good friend of mine has a 1530 and loves hers too. She likes the dial more than the buttons.

If I remember - the old version DID have speed control - it was on the foot pedal, somehow.

I had a 6152 and the foot pedal had a slide switch for half speed.
