I am interested in purchasing one of the semi-industrial straight stitch machines, like the Juki 2010q, Viking Grand Quilter, or the Janome 1600p QC. I am wondering what the slowest SPM they will stitch when the speed dial is at the low end, and the pedal is floored. I thought I read that the Viking stitches from 800 to whatever top speed, but what I want is a machine like that, that will stitch pretty slowly when the pedal is floored at the low end of the speed control. Make sense? Anybody know the difference?

I have owned both the Grand Quilter and the Janome 1600p (long story but sold the Grand Quilter with the Inspira frame and then wished I had kept the machine so bought the Janome 1600p) and both were fabulous machines. I used the speed slider set about 3/4 of the way to fast, but with it set to slow either machine would sew quite slowly and the foot pedal was quite responsive also. I seem to remember the Janome version had an extra light.

I own the 1600p and have no problem with speed. It is not like an industrial. I am a slow sewer and it goes slow if you want. You can even press the needle up/down to go one stitch at a time.

Im glad you posted 800 spm for the slow speed on the machine - as I was going to respond and say I thought I remembered reading, in the Grand Quilters manual that, the slow speed was 800 spm.

The JUKI 2010Q stitches 200 SPM using the lowest setting on the speed dial.
