Somewhere where I can't find it, I already posted something about this, but since I can't find it, I'll start anew. (Sorry about that.)
Got my granddaughter a vintage HA1 clone machine, and finally have a pic of it. She will be getting this and a couple hours of lessons tomorrow afternoon, along with a bunch of stuff like scissors, thread, needles, pins, and so on to get her started. Hope this works for her, as she has a plastic fantastic machine that she can't make work for more than a few stitches, and is therefore very frustrated.
The machine is now in a portable case from about the right era, because she has no space for a cabinet.

Don't know how old she is but all that blank space on the arm calls out for her name in some adhesive letters (to me anyway)...

Don't confuse accessibility with ease; just because anybody can pick up a needle and thread doesn't mean sewing quality garments is easy.

Wow, lessons and machine - great gift Al! A forever gift.

I was blessed with a thoughtful and wonderful grandfather too - wonder if you know how that grandfatherly influence stays with a girl all through her life.

Had her over for two hours today, going over the machine. I think she likes it. She says she has ideas for projects for it, and sounds like she's going to try to do some stuff. I have a bunch of PDF stuff I'm going to e-mail her now, including the astm-d6193-97 Stitches and Seams.pdf, the HA1Class15manual.pdf, and ruffler unruffled.pdf. Probably a few more, too. She might be a bit overwhelmed, LOL.
