I'd sewn the Jalie men/boys' dress shirt pattern for many years. My almost thirteen year old son needs a dress shirt for a swing dance competition at school in a few weeks.

He does not want the relaxed fit. He is tall and thin--size 10 in circumference and size 14 in height.

I am used to making pattern adjustments, but really messed up adjusting the relaxed fit out of the Jalie pattern last year.

At this point, I am just looking for a regular or slim fit dress shirt. I'd searched, but I haven't found one. If I don't find one soon, I may be pulling out the pattern drafting book to draft one myself. I just don't want to draft one for a growing boy.

Any suggestions?

Burda 9524 goes up to a size 13...but since your son is thin, you could just add length... I haven't made it and there are no reviews, but it looks like it could do for your needs.

I find the Sis Boom patterns to be awesome and well drafted, though the instructions are extremely thorough as their patterns are written as if you've never sewn before

You could try their Ethan Shirt

I remember making a dress shirt for my junior high son by using a women's or girls pattern and switching the buttons and buttonholes. Omit any darts and lengthen the body and sleeves.

That's a difficult age to find shirt sewing patterns for!

Because his circumference is a size 10, would you consider the Oliver&S Sketchbook shirt? It goes up to size 12 and runs a bit short so you would end up adding a lot of length.

Be sure to post if you find a pattern that suits, my elder 2 boys are 14 & 15 and I'm hoping to sew them shirts this year.

I have been searching for the same thing. None of the big 4 patterns are very good. After reading the comments, I think I should give a heads up. I immediately ordered the SisBoom pattern and started printing it out. It is 166 pages long because each size is printed totally separately which is great, but the instructions, measurements etc. don't come till the end, after size 2. No nesting of sizes. The pictures and instructions look great and I don't mind and am anxious to try it...it WILL eliminate tracing but just thought I should chime in and tell you. It looks like a great pattern and has a collar stand and different lines to shorten or lengthen the length to where you like it.

Wow! What a lot of suggestions!

I knew if there were patterns this was the place. I am going to sit down with my picky dresser and go over the patterns.

Unfortunately, he is leaning to the mama drafted, but he would have to stick around for fitting.

Thank you all so much. I feel the pressure come off my shoulders.

I will post with what is decided. I am dreading when he is in the complete "no pattern land" between 12 and men's 34.

Ottobre Design magazine has patterns for boys each issue that go up to a 170 (European). My 14 year old made himself a pair of Ottobre pajama pants last summer.

This is a link to the Winter 2013 all designs PDF.Link

They had a button down shirt that issue.

I have bought back issues directly from Ottobre.
