I've been looking for some time for something to use as a sewing desk. I have a 2' by 4' folding table but it vibrates quite a bit when I use the serger. I'm thinkin' a corner desk would be the answer.

I really like the looks of this one with the idea that I would put a regular machine on the left, the serger on the right and the tv in the corner where the laptop is in the pic.

What is people's experience with this type of setup? Are there any obvious pitfalls that I'm not seeing? I want to pick it up this weekend if it's a go.

I use a similar set up and I love it. On my L shape desk I have my computer on one side, the TV in the corner and both my serger and sewing machine on the other side. The sewing side is 48" wide so both machines sit side by side and I just slide one to the back corner and pull the other one to front of the table ..... switching machines is as easy as moving a cup of coffee. When I'm finished sewing I push the machines to opposite back corners and slip the covers on - neat and tidy and absolutely no fuss.

The desk you found looks really nice -- do they have matching book cases or lateral files? You could build a nice set of sewing room furniture.

Good luck with your search.

I noticed that your selection is a Sauder product - that's the brand of furniture I bought for my sewing room....this stuff is sturdy, easy to clean and relatively easy to assemble.

I went to the Sauder site to see what else they offer in the August Hill collection and noticed that the price of the desk is 219.99 - that's $80 less than the price at Sears. You would have to factor in the shipping charges, but it is probably worth a look to see if you can save a few bucks.

It has a narrow depth.... You have to click on the questions link to find the measurements. The side return was only about 19".

Kathi thanks for the feedback on the brand. That makes me feel more confident about buying it. As far as price Monarch Basics has it listed on their website for $229 but I used the Sears link to show it because they have a better picture .

Good point Dresscode. In theory the narrower side would be the serger side. Maybe I will have to bring it with me to the showroom to see if that would be workable.

Looks great to me and very good looking! It would be easy to switch from the machine to the serger. Go for it! Please post a pic when you get it set up and your machines on it. :-)

I also think it looks good. Seems like it would be a great work station and easy to go from machine to machine. The price is really nice as well! Do show us pics when you have it home and set up!
