I can't believe it!! I broached the subject Saturday afternoon to DH about thinking I'd sure like to get a CS machine, it'd be so helpful, I sew so many tees for the family, and I figured I'd have some fancy talking to do to get this one sold, right?
Next thing out of his mouth was about how much are they? Me , not having a clue, said oh 3, maybe 400, for a used one..
"okay", he says,"go ahead"
I am in shock, totally surprised, and thrilled all at the same time. So I of course, want to go checking right then at the local Bernina/brother dealer to see what they might have (before he changes his mind, lol).
I ran down as fast as I could, and asked the sales lady about a basic, cheaper coverstitch machine-no serger, since I already have one. They had no used ones, surprise surprise! She showed me the Bernina Bernette Funlock 009DCC Cover and Chain only machine. It does a basic 5mm coverstitch(beautiful stitch btw :D, and a chain stitch, uses regular schmetz sm needles) And *of course* its on sale
For $749 (uh oh)on sale from $999 but wait, there's more!
The demo was the only one left, so they'd sell that for $599. Well I figured that wasn't a bad discount for a "new" one (the demo comes with full warranty). So I called dh thinking he'd *maybe* say yes I could put it on layaway, since it's more than I thought, but it's still a 40% discount off full price.
Well shock of shocks, he said go ahead and get it!!I was, needless to say, thrilled!!!
Now I feel a *leeetle* silly, as this is the first machine I've bought without a bit of research first, but I'm so excited, I'm not too worried. It's still in the store, so they could give it a thorough check and make sure all is in top working condition since it is the floor model, so I won't get it till Wednesday proabably.
I can hardly stand it! I sure hope I can get a few of the really *kewl* binding attachments I read so much about in the sm/serger thread (i've been enabled by Ms Debbie Cook, btw lol) And I hope they're not a hundred bucks, too! I know Bernina accessories are pricey
But anyway I just had to share, with someone who'd understand my excitement
Btw, dh has an ulterior motive for being so nice-there's something *he* wants too!

Waving WOOHOO from Downunder.
I think every girl should have one of these on their gift list
These babies make finishing our garments a breeze.
I have had mine for 6 months and I think I have recouped my outlay already, when I add up all the knit tops (I've lost count with the twist top tally) and the five cotton interlock nighties I have recently made.
A little something I discovered..I use the screw on seam guide from my Janome sewing machine as a seam guide on the CS. I may invest in the hemming attachment at some stage, but for now the seam guide and my duck billed applique scissors to trim the underside,do a great job. I use a regular glue stick to keep hems in place for accurate stitching...particulary on necklines.
Enjoy and keep us posted

I can relate to this story! Everytime DH wants to buy something big, he always asks me if I need another sewing machine. LOL Hey, whatever works. Congratulations on your machine, I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have enjoyed mine.

I can honestly say that my coverstitch machine has significantly contributed to my personal happiness.

In that case, Dr. Sue, can you write us all prescriptions for one? If all I had to come up with was an insurance co-pay I could get one. Think of the cost compared to years of anti-depressants or counseling.

I DO know your excitement....I purchased the Janome a few months ago. Until this past week I hadn't really utilized it, and then I was asked by DD at camp for summer to sew up a swimsuit....The coverstitch made this suit SO easy to create. DD is thrilled with her one of a kind (camo....hmmm) suit just perfect for lake swimming!

Hilary - that's wonderful news. Just a thought - the Janome coverstitch machines are getting great reviews from everyone and anyone who has them seems to love them. They are quite cheap in Australia (on sale at $499 Aussie for the one coverstitch and chainstitch and $699 Aussie for the one with 3 different coverstitch and chainstitch).
I don't know much about the Bernina though I have seen it at my Bernina store. I'm sure you'll be very happy though as Berninas are usually very good. I think your DH deserves some special attention.
