Hi, I'm trying to find a thread I saw about two weeks ago. It was on hidden or secret drawers in sewing cabinets. I'm a member of only two sewing forums - this one and the Quilting Board. I have searched both and can not find that thread anywhere. What makes this extra frustrating is I posted a message to it - so you think I should be able to find it in a search!

Does anyone know where it is, or if it got deleted?

Have you tried searching for posts that you have made? Do you know how?

Just in case you don't (ignore if you do) :)

Over on the top right there is a button that says "Search Boards."
Click on that button.
In the search box, you can leave the search term blank.
Put your user id in the proper box, choose messages, all forums

Click search

The results show all the posts you have made. I think it's pretty good. It might miss a few.

If you can remember any words in the post or topic you can put that in the search term box. Hope this helps.

Good luck.

I don't think it was here, just because I probably would have noticed it. I have never heard of a secret drawer in a sewing cabinet, but I know of some more old roll top desks that were made that way sometimes.

It was on Quilting Board...in the vintage machine section.

frame - Thanks for your message, but yes, I did search for it.

beauturbo - It was the general concensus that the secret drawer or compartment was to keep scissors and needles away from children.

path49 - See? That's what is driving me nuts. Plus, I contacted the moderator for the Vintage section and she told me that my post must have not been successful since I can't find it, but that ignores the fact that the thread is missing. Maybe I'll post this same question in Chit-Chat over there.

In the quilting board link online it says a White treadle "has 3 drawers in the cabinet and the top drawers were secret drawers".

I think some people would call this a “secret drawer”.

Don't feel bad. I was trying to search something on the PR message boards last week and kept hitting a wall. I knew I had the right word, and it was more than four letters.

Sometimes you have to be creative and think divergently when searching here at PR. I finally came up with some variation of what I was looking for and found it. The frustrating thing is that the topic title had the word I initially searched! And I had searched it both in titles and answers. Argh....

tateelliot,
You can also use Google to search which is what I usually do. It's more thorough.

In the google search box put your search term followed by the word "site" then a colon then the name of the website. So in this instance it would look something like this:

Members at the Quilting Board agree that it was there but is now gone. The moderator says that she can't find any trace of the thread.
