Took our Gracie(cat)to the Vet yesterday. Blood work came back today and the results show kidney failure. She has weeks, maybe a few more months...we are going to keep her as comfortable as we can, without heroics. Nothing they can do will cure her, only prolong the inevitable. It's been a slow decline over the last 6 months or so. Just in the last two weeks I've noticed a big change. Weight loss, change in some of her little habits.

She hasn't been interested in her hard kibble since January. At the end of January, vet found she had a fever and gave her an antibiotic shot. She perked up a little but never found the appetite she had. She still enjoys her canned food and the vet told me when he called this evening, to give her as much of it as she wants. My inner self has known for a while now, she was walking towards the rainbow bridge, it's just really hard to hear it's actually happening.

So sorry you and Gracie must take this journey. Always difficult to lose one you love.

I hope she can still enjoy lap time and all your love for as long as you have together. It's hard to face up to the outer reality despite the inner knowing. I'm sorry for you both.

I've also lost kitties to kidney failure, the last one in March. It's hard and you have my heartfelt sympathy.

I've quit fighting my inner demons. We're on the same side now.

It's just fabric; we can out-think it.

When my current cat went for his kitten check-up, I told the vet that I wanted a recommendation for good quality food, because I suspected I had killed too many cats with a poor diet that resulted in kidney failure. He said "your cats died of kidney failure because they were cats."

I'm sorry that the inevitable is so close and so obvious. Please know that without you, Gracie would not have had the life she's had. And for today, she's still here!

I"m sorry. Treasure the time you have and spoil Gracie rotten. Our two oldest had kidney failure as well but it was a very slow process and they required no special treatment. My aged Mum has been in kidney failure for years and has only 30% function but that's enough it seems.
