I just found an 8 year old Babylock Evolve for sale. It's on ebay and I'm wondering if any of you have any suggestions? No one is bidding on this so that is another question I have. This would be my first serger. A gal in a store nearby showed me one, and I was in love- except the price for a new one is more than I had planned to spend. Are there any problems I would find in an older machine or are they workhorses and worth investing in? Please help! I have about an hour to decide. Would I be better off buying a newer Elna for the same price?

My Evolve is almost that old and works as well as ever. Unless it was abused or not cleaned regularly, I would think it would be ok.

I agree with Speech girl. I have had an evolve for 7 years now and it works just fine.

Thanks! She tells me it was serviced 4 years ago and she has only used it 3 times.

So even if I had to have it serviced, would $850 be a reasonable price?

I don't know what "blue book" is on the machine, but, like the other posters, I've had my Evolve for 8 (or is it 9?) years. It's a workhorse, very low-maintenance, very durable.

Good luck with your decision.

I too have had my Evolve serger for about 8 yrs and really use it almost daily. It is the best of sergers and never has had an issue. I would like to suggest that you talk to several dealers and find out what they have in stock ... new and used Babylock sergers since a dealer will warranty and tell you if the price you have been quoted is a fair one. You can also ask the seller to have the machine cleaned and supply you with the receipt so you know that the machine is working.

Are you bidding on eBay? Has the seller offered a money-back guarantee?

If the machine is in good condition that is a very good price.

That's an excellent price. Does the auction show serged samples? Does the seller have good feedback?
