Date: 9/30/05 6:25 AM This floor opt lite is on sale from $238 to $99. Seems like such a big drop in price- I wonder why. Does anyone have an opt light like this and do you like it? Also what is the difference between daylight and opt lite?

I hope the link works. I guess if I don't like it I can return it-
Thanks. ------ Penny

Date: 9/30/05 7:28 AM I have the floor model as well as the portable one. The floor version adds extra light to my sewing table, and the portable one is used whenever I need extra light in general.
Ott Lites are a good substitute for full spectrum daylight and they are really useful for accurate color matching on fabrics.
I like the portable one best - because it's portable! ------ Sewing = Fashion

Date: 9/30/05 7:39 AM I have the portable one. I like it but don't use it that often. I am eyeing one of the floor models though. It occurred to me how handy it would be to put in my living room. Sometimes when I have hand work or reverse sewing to do I like to sit and watch a movie. My regular table lamps just aren't bright enough so I have to bring the portable in. They have the brushed nickel floor model on sale for $79 at JoAnn.com....... I don't think I could buy a regular floor lamp for that price!
As to the difference in light quality, the Ott gives off the same type of light as a full-spectrum bulb. I changed all of my fluorescents to full-spectrum a few years ago and love the light! It's far superior to incandescent or fluorescent. If you have existing light fixtures check your local home center for full-spectrum bulbs. |

Date: 9/30/05 8:11 AM I have a sharper image my husband got me last year that sits on my table in the sewing room and like you my living room lamps are not enought light- so I've been lugging the table lite around- PIA and its heavy.
I am just wondering how sturdy the $99 one is and also it comes with the magnifier which I think could come in handy. I hate sending things back- but am thinking I'll get it.
Ha-Ha- Reverse sewing- sounds so much better than seam ripping( that is what your meant isn't it).
After researching them further- I read reviews where the brushed nickle one falls over easy and the Dover one seems to be a lot more sturdy. I may check out Joannes and use a coupon- I'd like to see it in person- and not spend $10 on shipping and another $10 to ship it back if I don't like it. -- Edited on 9/30/05 9:36 AM -- ------ Penny

Date: 9/30/05 12:24 PM Speaking of Joanns, what's the deal with security cameras at the cutting tables? Were a lot of employees cutting an inch extra that they needed the cameras there? ------ I'd rather be sewing. |

Date: 9/30/05 1:04 PM Oh, yes, heaven forbid they should be caught "giving away" an extra inch! I'd like to actually get what I pay for - just a thought..... |

Date: 9/30/05 2:43 PM Gigi - this may not even be helpful - but whenever I use my portable Ott Lite in the living room DH has a snit because it casts so much ambient light he finds it distracting while he watches TV.
But again maybe it's just a problem with the portable version - maybe the models that are meant to coordinate with furniture styles don't have that problem.

Date: 9/30/05 3:41 PM Ott lights are a life saver...I have two...one a floor light and one a portable clip on I got at the ASG convention half price. I am 60 years old and these eyes love..love...love the treat of really seeing color, thread and definition. It is a definite...but use your 40% off coupon to purchase. Well worth the investment if you are over 40. |

Date: 9/30/05 5:02 PM If anyone has a Tuesday Morning store nearby, check for the Verilux clamp lamp and the floor lamp. I got both of them there for $99.00 (retail on the clamp lamp was $99 and on the floor lamp it was $139. I basically got the floor lamp for free! |

Date: 9/30/05 5:16 PM I have the Ott floor lamp by my SM with the magnifier. Love the lamp, but find that the magnifier is a PITA to move around (you have to move it back so the lamp doesn't tip over), and it's actually easier for me to use a small hand magnifier.
